Thoth Deck Tarot: THREE OF SWORDS-SORROW

The Great Mother, Binah, rules the suit of Air in this card's imagery.. Binah, in this state of consciousness, is not the beneficent Great Mother of the Trinity of Kether and Chokmah, but rather is seen here as the Dark Deep Sea of the "Abysmal Womb". This is a very difficult doctrine for the average student to grasp. Much study is recommended.
In the Zodiac, this card is Saturn in Libra.which accentuates this darkness.
This is the melancholy of the Universal Mind; the Womb of Chaos. Further understanding may come from analyzing the second law of thermodynamics which states"...Everything proceeds from order to disorder".
In this card, the Great Dark Sea of Mother is a brooding sorrow, for all Her bright beautiful children have become monsters.
This is a deep heartfelt sorrow that is not necessarily human even though it can be felt by humans.  We must remember, that contrary to our religious or cultural teachings, Darkness is not a negative. Unlimited Light is darkness to us, because it has no end or beginning to observe. Light in reflection, is visible to us as the reflection gives us a beginning and end to see.. The Great Dark Womb, is a birth giver of limited light, the stuff that all form is made of. To truly understand the Joy of the Greater Self, is to also know the Great Sorrow that limit imposes on us..
In the Thoth Deck Three of Swords, the sword of the Magus with point uppermost,  cuts the junction of the two curved swords. The Impact destroys the Rose, causing disorder which may mean the supreme transcendence of natural order. The back ground of this card is a brewing storm of implacable light. A very deep and visceral understanding of this card's symbolism is necessary for one to become a Magi....new age fluff need not apply.
When this card is thrown during a reading, it means that in three weeks or three months the querent shall experience unhappiness, sorrow. tears. Disruption of plans, interruption, separation, quarreling, sowing of discord and strife, yet there will be mirth in evil pleasures, deceitful in words. Depending on the dignity of the cards around it, it could also mean honesty in money transactions, selfish and dissipated, yet sometimes generous. Which depicts the sorrow felt by someone who goes against their greed, which they generally relish as a win.
Thank you for your interest and comments. May you live long and prosper!

Again your explanation gets the meaning of this card across relatively clearly. Within darkness is light and vice versa, to know ones true self is to also know one's limitations, and that darkness in its self isn't bad, but I was wondering though if you could elaborate on what you mean by, "The supreme transcendence of nature." to me?

Hello Tyler, glad you like the blog. The supreme Transcendence of Nature, in Qaballah is the "Will of God or The Divine Creative" rather than the will of man. The second law of thermodynamics, where order becomes disorder, transcends the will of man. No matter how much we wish to make "infinite" things, we just have to keep building up from the detritus of the past. We would say that the Will of the Mother of Form, transcends all form and its will. Thank you for your interesting comments. May you live long and prosper.

Hello there again Eli! I have been studying this card among others due to the fact they are my birthday cards and crucial to understanding one's true self. I was wondering if you could explain how cards symbolism is important to being a magi?

Hi Tyler. You are indeed a promising student of the occult. It was not love that built the cosmos, it was the extreme sorrow of not "knowing oneself" that built it. From the Dark side, the Abyss, came all seen things. The True Will resides on the "other-side" of the Abyss, and a Magi must know "his Dark Will" to be a "Willed Power". Spirit is massively predatory. It is all "I AM" and one must enter the extreme sorrow of the Mother destroyer, who must destroy her lovely creations, in order to keep creating. So must a Magi. You must feel comfortable in deep dark sorrow, in order to be a true Willed Power of Love. Thank you for your interest and may you live long and prosper!

Thank you Eli, your articles have helped me very much along my way. This makes a lot of sense. It's like balancing your yin and yang. Your dark/negative with light/positive. Achieving this would bring balance and neutrality to the individual. Do you know think understanding my moon sign would help with this considering the Thoth deck uses sun sign astrology?

Hi again Tyler. Understanding your moon sign is understanding the Shadow side of the Sun. There is more than one side to a mirror! The "other-side" of the mirror, is most important to know for one to reach magi status. I would say you have the right idea. May you live long and prosper.

Egads Cooper! I have never found a "complete book" on the Abysmal Womb...probably because to enter it is to be only "soul-seed", where the personality is totally surrendered without need of result. I have found it mentioned by St. John of the Cross, in his discussion of the "Dark Night of The Soul", Crowley mentions it but in a very convoluted way, as do most "occultist". I found the Abysmal Womb mentioned in the Books by Carlos Castaneda, as explain as a "Dark Eagle" that rips apart souls. Eliphas Levi mentions it in his works. But all in all, it is the end of you as a person, where the "Tree of You" is reduced to a "seed atom", where one must be in such a stage of "impersonal" that they do not care if there is existence or not. By skrying the Moon Card of the Thoth Major Arcana, one may enter this womb....however, if one comes back, they are not the same being that went in. I know, I totally surrendered myself, not caring if I lived or died, to this Womb of the Abyss, long in my magic work. She destroyed me, leaving only a "core atom" and/or nucleus of the beginning intelligence that resides in the Divine Collective, where the Collective became my I and observed this "red nucleus" that was the beginning of the I Am that has built the "me".....The collective sent me back, restored, but very different from the identity that died in the womb. This is probably why not much is written about this Abyss Womb. For it is the beginning of all that is Unconscious and conscious...it is a No-Thing, and will complete break down the "something" that enters it, into the original core fragment of the "beginning I". Here the secret "key" to all things lays hidden, and one must be without any desire or need, to enter, without guarantee of exit. Cooper, you must go so deep into sorrow, that there is no-thing else...and that sorrow is your only identity. Love will not get you into the Abyss of the Womb of all Creation. Don't play with this one, the Abysmal Womb is a very dangerous place for egos, many have not returned. May you live long and prosper.

Thank you for your mysterious comment. Time is not an essence in the Great Dark Womb, three years, can be 3 days, 3 minutes, or 3 nanoseconds. I remember going into a meditation, that went deep into the "darkness" and came out of it 7 days later, thinking only minutes have passed. I had to get a new job, but the meditation was so profound, that it took a good 7 years for it all to appear on this plane. I hope that you live long and prosper.
