The Nines are attributed to Yesod (Foundation) on the Tree of Life, thus after the incursion into double misfortune (7&8's), the current of energy is back on the middle pillar. Yesod, is the Sephira-seat of the great crystallization of energy , much like the Etheric Body of the Human Aura and is the "fabric that matter is woven from". Although this "weaving" takes place far down the Tree, getting very little vibrational help from the unbalanced spheres Hod and Netzach, Yesod is directly connected to Tiphareth...the highest state of balance possible for Human psyche and physical matter. Therefore, the nines give the full most elemental impact of the idea of Force; The "idea" because Yesod is still in the Formative World of Yetzirah.
Zoroaster--- [ "The number 9 is sacred, and attains the summit of perfection."]
Rome and Egypt, also had Nine Major Deities.
The Nine of Wands-Strength:
Ruled by the Moon and Yesod, the Nine of Wands is the antinomy (alchemical word) of Change and Stability. This card represents an easily understood doctrine concerning equilibrium , that change is stability and that stability is guaranteed by change. The fact known to physics, is that if change stops in anything, even for a fraction of a second, it would go to pieces. Therefore, the Nine of Wands, represents the atomic forces, the intense primal energy of Nature. We, who have ridden a bicycle, know that balance is best obtained by going fast enough, slow and wobbly, threatens disaster. The 9 of Wands, is the fast moving electrons, atoms or the Strong nuclear force of physics (balanced by the Weak Force).
The fact that the ever-changing Moon is in Sagittarius , the most elusive of signs, might confuse viewing astrologist who wonder."where is the strength in this?"; However, the best, therefore strongest defense, is a mobile one.
Four many of us, luck and happiness seem to go together, making this card a particularly good one as it is ruled by Jupiter, who is the Planet of Good Fortune. Here, we have Jupiter in Pisces, and in watery signs there is a certain amount of illusion, such as, romantic love which requires illusion in order to gestate into full blown passion (dream within a dream) and/or complete satiety. We also know that full satisfaction is merely the matrix for putrefaction, as there is no such thing as absolute rest; another reason why romantic love, fades away into change. Like the bubbles in a good Champagne, left out too long, it all goes flat, leaving a memory of effervescence . So, happiness is momentary with out hope of permanence..... but that rare moment of sensation is why it is so fascinating!
Here, the original disruption of the Swords (Swords belong to Geburah-Severity) is raised to its highest power! Being ruled by Mars in Gemini, it is agony of the mind.
In the Nine of Swords, thought along with the acrimonious taint of analysis, has gone through every possible stage, and has conclusively reached despair.
Those of us who have reached and returned from the Dark Night of the Soul, know that this despair is the first step in gaining this much vaunted horror of transformation that can only be reached by not "giving a damn if you live or die, for everything is a delusion anyway...."; a transformation that is a must to reach the mental force of Magus. To know that all thought is but fantasy, is not believing it to be so, but experiencing its betrayal first hand, as everything you ever thought to be true, shrivels and dies before your "I's". Metal Self-Cruelty, is how you are trained to be "what you are not", and within the worded thought definitions of mankind, you, the metal "yourself," the ego, realizes that man-made identity/definition, is a delusion misdirecting "I" sight, with no hope of ever "Knowing thyself". Yet, by realizing this understanding, you are well on your way to doing just that! Our brain is a devilish maze of lies, so splendorous they dazzle our "I's" and we are blind to our putrefaction.
The Nine of Disks- Gain:
The cold mercurial nature of Virgo, may be seen as the opposite of Venus, the planetary ruler of this card which is now in her fall and never develops her beauty properly. Thus the Nine of Disks, is too dense and dull to care, it just counts its winnings, feeling all is won and without thoughts of future. Purring with satisfaction, it rubs its hands and sits at ease. There is a satisfied feeling of "everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds". Change isn't even considered here, and this folly will present itself in the Tens. But for now, all is well in the financial and material world....who gives a damn about anything else! But the balance seen here is as undeveloped as Venus is in this card, just like elementary finances inflation /change is unforeseen, and sitting upon "your laurels" too long just crushes & putrefies the greenery. The warning in this card is simply, enjoy the moment, but re- invest, by using your imagination, or lose what you have gained in the heaviness of the material world.
