To reiterate, MALKUTH, is the 10th Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. The word means Kingdom, and it is the manifested Earth where we have our objective forms.
Malkuth is the Sphere where the Alchemical Four Elements are based, intermingling to ultimately produce what we know as matter. Yet, these elements are not the same as touchable fire, water, air and earth. Rather, they are the motive force behind those manifested 118 elements listed on the Element Tables of modern science.
For instance, combustion is ruled by simple laws and in the most fanciful of terms, Alchemists say that when one lights a match, one does so only through the Fire Force of the Salamanders and/or elemental fire. Let me explain:
Malkuth, is the lowest Sephiroth, in the Lowest of the Four Worlds, Assiah
[see illustration from the Book of Robert Wang--The Qabalistic Tarot]. As shown, each Sephiroth has an entire Tree-of Life of its own. Malkuth like the Mundane Chakra of the Human Body, is The Root Chakra that is the Material world, and the Lowest Sephiroth of each and all the Four worlds, is in Assiah.
Thus, the Malkuth of Malkuth in Assiah, is the planet on which we walk; The Tiphareth of Malkuth in Assiah is our Sun around which our planet circles; The Netzach of Malkuth in Assiah is Venus, While Hod is Mercury and Yesod is the Moon.
Yet that which we perceive as the material world, is 99.6% space, while most of the material that we see is of atomic composition and each atom is composed of minute quanta (sub atomic particles) that can only be seen by enormous electronic magnification, if at all. In truth, we sense very little of our Material World! Even more astounding is the fact that the forces that activate these atomic particles, can only be seen with the inner vision...our "I" sight on the "other side of the mirror".
Tattva Exercises (mentioned in the Book-777 by Crowley), are used to contact these elemental forces, in more or less agreed upon Anthropomorphic shapes . These are the exercises of Assiah. (look them up---no time to go through them here). When contacting Gnomes, we are dealing with the forces of stability directly beneath our sphere of sensation. These stable forces are an amalgamation of aspects of three elements in the fourth, as Malkuth is a quadripartite unity. To handle the motive force of Air, means to deal with the Sylphs who dwell directly beneath Yesod's Mundane chakra, the Moon. The Undines of the motivational force of Water, are in Hod-Mercury and the Salamanders of motivation Fiery Force are of Netzach-Venus.
The difference between Malkuth and other Sephiroth, with the exception of Kether, is that it is Self contained, as is Kether. Malkuth is the receptacle for all the Forces of the Tree, as they feed into Malkuth and are grounded into stability. This does not mean Malkuth is inactive, rather, it is in a state of Stasis, as continual motion is the law of Nature.
Malkuth is called the Bride of Microprosopus (Microcosmic Consciousness), relating to the Princess Cards of Tarot. Tiphareth related to the Princes of Tarot. Thus, the ruler of the personality , which it projects for each incarnation is Beauty (Tiphareth), However, for the personality to preform its given task, it must have a "place in time" and/or a given structure Thus, the Princess, as a bride of the Prince (who is actually a aspect of the King) is the very structure (Kingdom), through which the Prince rules.
Personally, our Soul is the Prince who takes the Bride of Material Nature, the Princess, as a personal choice to enter a new incarnation, with a new personality. This symbolic "taking of the bride", is really the Higher Self of Tiphareth, building a personality out of the sequential forces of Netzach, Hod, and Yesod. That Personality is then expressed through the vehicle of Matter in Malkuth. Thus, two principles unite, giving rise to a third, which is expressed in a fourth. (Yod Heh Vau Heh)
As stated, the 2 Primary symbols of Malkuth are the Altar of the Double Cube, formed by stacking one atop the other on a black altar cloth, symbolizing the doctrine of "as above, so below" as six sides referring to Tiphareth. The other primary symbol is the Equal Arm Cross, symbolizing the balance of the Four Elements.
The other symbols are the Mystic Circle, which encloses sacred ground, and the Triangle of Art in which evocation takes place. The initiate must remember that evocation is different from invocation, as to evoke means to bring something from another plane, generally using heavy incense as a medium to aid manifestation. Invocation is a prayer calling on a specific form of the Divine Presence, and is less smokey.
Malkuth, the inferior Mother, is continually active and productive and she is a lower arc expression of Binah, the Supernal Mother, This cyclic union must produce something further, ( realizing the union of Vau Heh final, of the Yod Heh Vau Heh The Four Principle s of the Tree of Life). What is produced is renewed activity of Kether, which re- activates the out going force of Chokmah, which sustains the the formalizing force of Binah, and so on down the Tree. The continuity of this cycle is symbolize by the Ovum or Egg or the Serpent with its tail in its mouth and the Lemnicus. This cycle of downward and upward swing, must become ever tighter, pulling closer to Kether. Eventually, there will come a point in the evolution of the Spirit of Humankind, where the Tree of Life no longer describes our Universe. This understanding becomes present in the Magus who continually consciously cycles the Tree of Life, soon Kether, is "As above and so Below", and there is no Magus present....Like I said, Malkuth is the most complex of all Sephira.
Malkuth, is the Sephiroth of both the 10's of the minor arcana and the Processes of the Court Cards. I;ll begin explaining the 4 Tens in tomorrows blog.
