The Rider-Waite and Thoth Deck Tarot Card Comparisons: THE FOUR OF WANDSs

The symbols of Aries, the Ram and Venus, the Dove, dominate the Thoth Deck Card making it is easy to see that this card is attributed to the planet Venus in the Sign of Aries.  Venus in Aries, indicates that one's work can't be accomplished without tact and gentleness, as the force of Mars is militant in nature.
Venus is the planet of love and beauty, and in the Four of Wands, it is being activated by the energy of Mars (Aries). If this was an astrological reading, this would mean a fiery romance of warmth, but brief and fleeting in character. However, Sephirotic meanings change the character of this Venus-Mars union.

The Thoth Four of Wands-Completion, is attributed to the fourth Sephiroth Chesed in the Suit of Fire; Chesed in Atziluth, the world of Pure Spirit. Chesed (Mercy) is the Lord of all manifested active power because the will of the Two has been transmitted through the Three and has now become a solid system  in the Four.

In the Thoth Four of Wands, the wands are all touching the circle representing a completion and limitation of the original work. Within the center of the circle , we see 8 flames (4 doubled) which indicates a balance has been maintained by the Original Will without any need to go beyond this limited scope. Limitation is required to make form and the work of the Supernal Triangle is complete. However, once energy is held at an abeyance, change, the divine constant takes over and  entropy begins so completion will degrade into disorder under the Severity of Geburah, Chesed's mate.

The reading of the Rider-Waite 4 of Wands card is about, settlement, and arrangement completed. Perfected work of a thing built up by troubled labor.  Rest after labor. Being Chesed (Wisdom) in the sign of Fire, there is cleverness, subtlety, mirth and beauty as attributes of this card. Thus we have a flowering garland held up by Four obviously phallic wands and the two saluting personages in the background are dressed in the blue and white of Chesed/Kether and the Red/white of Geburah and Kether, as the symbols of Venus and Aries who have completed the work of the Supernal Triangle, Kether specifically being recognized (the color of Kether, the crown is traditionally White).

When the Thoth or Rider-Waite 4 of Wands is thrown during a divination:
  • The  The querent is showing a high reasoning capacity by using conclusions based on experience.
  • A settlement is made and the arrangement is completed.
  • Experiencing perfected work of a thing after troubled labor.
  • Rest after hard work.
  • Ideas firmly established
  • A phase of development is solid and successful and a new beginning will soon occur.
If ill defined, by the accompanying cards:
  • There will be moments of unreadiness, causing unreliable and unsteady behavior through bouts of  over anxiety.
Basically this card states that." Through struggle and diligent hard labor, goals have been achieved.......now new goals must be made. "
Thank you for your interest and comments. May you live long and prosper!
