THE PRINCESS OF SWORDS: Spiral Tarot and Thoth Deck Tarot Card Comparisons.

THE PRINCESS OF SWORDS, in the Spiral Tarot and Thoth Tarot, represents the earthly part of Air. She is the fixation of the Volatile. She represents the influence of Heaven on Earth and brings about the materialization of idea. There is some suggestion of the Valkyrie, in this card but She also represents Artemis and characteristics of Minerva. To some extent, she represents the anger of the gods, therefore on the Thoth Card she wears a helm of  serpent crest, that symbolizes the serpent-haired Medusa.

The heavens and clouds whirl about angrily, as illustrated on both the Spiral Tarot and Thoth Tarot. While the Thoth card shows she is stabbing downward with her sword, fighting the moods of lower emotional thought.  In the background of the Thoth card, is a profaned altar, whose fire is gone out due to lack of attention which seems to anger this Valkyrie.

Since Princesses are the "throne of Spirit", the Princess of Swords has the option of "throwing everything overboard" and/or "blowing everything sky high." The Character of this personality Archetype, is stern,  and revengeful. Her logic is destructive, as she is both firm and aggressive.
She is the function of the volatile, thus she is shown as a Valkyrie. With Her Sword of "volatile Mind" she cleaves away the dross, so the pure essence is seen as a materialization of Idea. Much like Michelangelo who was known for his perceptive chisel,  that cleaved away what was not  the image he saw in the marble.

The Archetype personality of the Princess of Swords is of a stern and revengeful nature. She is firm, aggressive and wields destructive logic with great practical wisdom and subtlety in material things. Her natural cleverness and adroitness in managing controversial affairs makes her a master of settling controversies. She would be a good ambassador. People thus characterized, may seem slow as if mentally, crushed by every responsibility, especially when it comes to family affairs. We must remember that the Princesses represent the "Throne of Spirit", and that the Princess of Swords has the option of "blowing everything sky high"...she has that potency of mind.

If ill dignified her qualities are dispersed, she becomes incoherent, and all her gifts form into a animal cleverness, a low cunning, that is unworthy of the means.
Thankfully, such low personalities are exceeding rare and they appear to be "Children of Misfortune" which seems to be the most unhappy of people. However, their Soul knows what it is doing, and sharp chisels are needed to "cut away the dross" so that the real beauty can be revealed.  Thankfully The Princess of Swords personality is usually expressed in a young, and bright minded person with plenty to say.

When the Princess of Swords is thrown during a reading/divination, the implication is:
  • New thoughts and ideas rapidly stirring.
  • New information to process, sometimes abstract thoughts, gossip, letters, or contracts.
  • The individuals moods are out of control and clouding mental clarity.
  • The individual is feeling defensive; even aggressive.
  • The individual is taking risks in thought and communication.
  • Recognizing the truth within and stabilizing what is volatile in the realm of the intellectual.
  • Is Fearlessly cutting through cloudy thought to get to the truth.
  • A sharp-minded woman of high spirit and keen judgment, stern and powerful.
Thank you for your interest and comments. May you live long and prosper!

Hi Eli, thank you for your description of this card. In the case that this card appears on a reading, does it represent an aspect of the conscious mind of the querent fighting against it's own man made beliefs, or doest it represents some sort of help/scold of the querent's soul instead, which is not being done consciously? Can we also make about the color green having to do with the heart chakra (meaning being true to yourself)? Best regards.

Hi Mario. It can represent the Anima, fighting against the belief system enforced on the people by the enslaving Patriarch. So she could be "the inner Creatrix" kicking out the emotional turmoil of the confused self-conscious; "the small ego killer". Remember, you as male, have a trained Animus; who has, due to errant masculine concepts, forgotten he is the "lover" soul of the Spirit-Anima. The Green is indeed the heart chakra and also the color of the planet Venus-perpetrator of beauty, love etc. The Anima that is Aphrodite. You are really putting this together---good work! Never forget, that a lone card is not the whole story, but knowing what you know now, will indeed help you see into a more esoteric meaning! Thank you for your comments and may you live long and prosper.
