THE TWO OF SWORDS: The Spiral Tarot and Thoth Tarot Card Comparisons.

The Two of Swords is called PEACE in the Thoth Deck. The two's are ruled by
the Principle to all systems and the Universal Pattern which is Chokmah-Wisdom, who may be considered the Real.

Sure there is Kether, the One, but Kether is potential "I" while Chokmah is an active "I", the first real functioning I-dentity. The Crown that is Kether is an "observer," or the "dark energy" identity, often called the "All Seeing eye"; but this "I" is not a participant...It just permeates and observers. If during deep meditations,  you may have met this Observer, as a sense of Self occupying the deep silence. Never interfering but always observing as a permeating sight.
Chokmah is active flow of Force (Will to Force-Phallus) and in fact, the union of Chokmah (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding-Womb) is the "I AM". from which all else is formed.

The Twos generally imply the initiation and fecundation of a thing.

THE Thoth TWO OF SWORDS-PEACE: is also called the Lord of Peace Restored.  Here the Moon is in Libra and Chokmah is influencing the Astral World of Yetzirah. The Angels of the Decan Yealel and Mehahel.

Swords are the element of Air, attributed to Mind, which can be more often than not, in turmoil, negative and destructive. In the Two of Swords this destructive nature is balanced by Chokmah and Libra incurring a benevolent nature and a positive card.  Here the normally clashing swords, are held together by the Blue five petaled Rose of the Greek Goddess of Wisdom-Sophia which is a symbol for Wisdom and showing the benign influence of the Mother. The affirmation of balance is the cross of light made of pin wheel like forms that imply a balance of active energy. Chokmah a Hebrew feminine noun, being phallic, may seem counter-intuitive as a "Goddess of Wisdom"; However, when the Womb of active identity actively expresses force, it is masculine in nature.  Whereas, Binah-understanding who is "will to form", is receptive to force and thus female in nature. Therefore, this union of Chokma and Binah, is often shown as two inseparable human forms in sexual dance, depicting the tension of motion and balance.

The Moon in Libra changes the Moon activity from erratic change to that of subtlety, grace and compromise. Thus, in divination the Two of Swords represents a quarrel made up and arranged, restoring peace. However, this maybe somewhat tenuous, as the peaceful nature is under the tension of motion which is also implied by the swirling pinwheel forms of light.

The Spiral Tarot depiction of the Two of Swords, emphasizes the Libra influence that is balancing the destructive nature of the two swords held in the tight-rope-walker.  The agile Woman is the perfect depiction of subtlety, grace and compromise as she is holding the two swords together over her heart;  as if she is the Blue Rose of Sophia on the Thoth card. The Moon in Libra, which is the planet and astrological sign attributed to this card, is also seen as a crescent in the night sky. The lady on the wire is a perfect balance of active energy, showing a clear head solving the issues at hand.  Peace requires at least two agreeable parties. In this case, the Lady and wire are at peace and are joined in agreement against the issue of gravity.

WHEN THE TWO OF SWORDS IS THROWN DURING A DIVINATION:

It implies :

  • Peace of Mind and body.
  • Two issues, relationships, choices or situations have been or are being integrated at a subconscious level, soon to be experienced outwardly.
  • A temporary balance and feeling of release from captivity.
  • Affirming a new belief or lifestyle, expanding opinions and communication.
  • A necessary respite before a change in an attempt to gain a mental balance.
  • Conflict at an impasse a stalemate of balanced forces.
  • Making peace and suspending judgment .
  • Blocked emotions due to compromise not accepting realities and the need to be tolerant towards others.
  • A clear head needed to solve conflicts, issues, negotiations and interests between partners.
The negatives of this card can  be:
  • False Peace caused by denial of facts.
