FOUR OF CUPS: The Spiral Tarot and the Thoth Tarot Card Comparisons.

The 4-of Cups-Luxury: Represents, luxurious emotion which fulfills in a two way flow of internal fulfillment deep within (two cups whose flow radiates outward) and external fulfillment (two cups whose flow is reflecting inwardly). This is a blended pleasure that will disperse into boredom, lethargy, discontent and apathy whereupon you will then be awaiting inspiration. But for now, this is a warm inner and outer glow--so relish it!

This emotional state is like a cat stretched out before a warm fire, purring and stretching in delight. Like all things, it will lose its intensity and wind down to await another time where inner emotion and outer emotion align once more or until the next warm fire of delight is ignited in your mind and body. The beauty of this emotional alignment lives on in our minds and hearts, so that no matter how bored or apathetic we get, we'll always await another inspiration.

The 4 of Cups card is The Moon in Cancer which is the aspect of feeling very nurtured (Cancer) from deep within (Moon).
This card also represents the flow of sexual energy in humans in which personal focus is washed away and compassionate powers are established beyond our usual experience of such energies. As many of us know, this inner and outer emotional alignment is a fleeting experience and is not to be expected to continue in our romantic entanglements even though many expect it to and blame each other for the resultant loss of intensity.
This usually causes break-ups or sexual experimentation with others which can stop the process of really knowing one another and the state of deep inner and outer  friendship that only mature love can bring which is also emotional luxury in a more stable state. So a bit of caution is also a message from this card.
The Spiral Tarot 4 of Cups seems to focus on this emotional lethargy that comes after the first rush of emotional fulfillment. Her demeanor is boredom as she gazes at what the three cups in front of her have to offer. She is not seeing the fourth cup yet.  She seems to be bored with present relationships and is dreaming of greener pastures.

From the Golden Dawn Texts:
" In Chokmah is the Radix of blue and thence is there a blue color pure and primitive, and glistening, with a spiritual Light which is reflected into Chesed. And the Sphere of its Operation is called Tzedek or Justice and it fashionith the images of material things, bestowing peace and mercy: and it ruleth the sphere of the action of the planet Jupiter. And Al is the title of a God strong and mighty, ruling in Glory, Magnificence and Grace. And the Archangel of Chesed is Tsadkiel, the Prince of Mercy and Beneficence, and the Name of the order of Angels is Chasmalim, Brilliant Ones, who are also called the Order of Dominions. The Sephira Chesed is also called Gedulah or Magnificent and Glory."

With such flowery words of ritual adoration, it is often difficult  to realized that this is Part of your Inner inheritance as a Divine Child. But so it is. Inside of you, which is infinitely deep, you are compose of these "states of energy conscious", thus the value of inner self meditation and skrying of the tarot cards should be apparent to one who is interested.

THE FOUR OF CUPS, in the Thoth Deck is called Luxury or Lord of Blended Pleasure.  As stated, the Planet is the Moon and the sign is Cancer.  The Angels of the Decan are: Hayayel and Mevamayah. Practice calling these names, you may be surprised at the vibratory change.

The Four of Cups is representative of
Chesed (mercy) in Briah, here Chesed is influencing the unconscious mental realm.

The alternate flow of the Moon is mitigated in Cancer, as the Moon naturally rules in this sign. The Moon's changing cycles are still there, but passive, and slow. When looking at the Crowley Card, we see the Upper Golden Solar cups overflowing but not the lower, implying that the pleasure is real but with reservations.  The caveat being; pleasure but not without some anxiety and discomfort.  Here the Luxurious feeling of pleasure is short and indifference soon takes over and as the multiple stems of the one lotus imply that the energy of luxury is divided amongst multiple flows of emotional thoughts; implying too many diverse issues involved to stay stable.  Four is a "dead end" number so ending is the only place to go and action must be taken soon.

When the 4 of Cups card is thrown during a reading, the querent shall experience:
  • Within 4wks or 4 months  emotional luxury, which is the capacity to make other people feel emotionally satisfied, secure and peaceful.
  • A period of contentment but this is the edge of completion and a new vision of love is being seen. Thus there is both  the gift and challenge of a fallow period.
  • Maybe boredom,  and apathy with a sprinkling of discontent as the querent awaits inspiration.
  • A  type of balance that is caught between the worlds of thought and action.  A good time for clarity and refining things down to a simple truth.
  • Within the next 4weeks or 4 months, you are determined to experience emotional luxury internally and externally. You are tired of feeling internally full and externally empty or vise verse.
  • It also indicates that in the next 4 weeks or 4 months, you could work well with luxury items, jewelery, cars, antiques, counseling, fashion design or anything that would be considered luxury.
  • That emotional luxury will be experience with Cancerian people (June 21 to July 21) in your life, be they non-family members or family members.
