, MALKUTH, Earth, is the 10th Serphiroth on the Tree of Life, and is the Qabalistic placement of the 4 Tens.
TEN OF CUPS is known as SATIETY, and is attributed to Mars in Pisces.
Crowley calls this card, The Lord of Perfected Success, as this is the
influence of MALKUTH in the unconscious Mental World known as Briah, an is often the emotional feeling of overwhelming satisfaction as a creation is completed.
Satiety, is word meaning, filled to the point of excess, though it is hard to argue that excessive happiness is a negative thing; However, it could be distracting and seem "flighty".
is exceptional about this card, is that the general astrological
meaning of Mars in Pisces doesn't apply. Pisces is a watery sign, and
Mars would signify a dispersal of energy to a point of frustration.
However, the meaning here is that fiery Mars causes
the Waters of Pisces to rush furiously into Briah, bringing great
success on the Material plane of Malkuth. The imagery of this card
expresses the opinion that all happiness is inspired from above, i.e.
comes from the Divine. One could say that Happiness, is a higher-inner
state of energy consciousness.
To be sure, when Tarot is used for
Divination, it is best applied to Mundane matters, where as the meaning
may be different if applied to a more spiritual plane. The Placement of
the cards, in the reading will clarify this statement.
In ordinary matters, the divined meaning is , matters definitely arranged as wished, permanent and lasting success.
This meaning of material success is reinforced if the 10 of Cup's lands
on the position of "Beneath you" or "of House and Home", on a Celtic
Cross layout. In fact, that would be paramount for this card, as it is a
10 of Malkuth (Kingdom) in a Earthly existence position.
Again,the Thoth-Ten of Cups/Satiety, represents deep emotional
contentment that radiates outwardly from the inner self. The back
ground pattern that the radiant cups rest on is the Qabalistic Tree of
Life which is the symbol of the "Supreme Being", showing that this card
symbolizes complete emotional, mental, and physical contentment.
However, since the Astrological aspect of this card is Mars in Pisces,
it also states that due to the dynamic vitality and sometimes violent
motion of Mars, the peaceful waters (emotions) of Pisces are soon to be
disturbed. This should not surprise any of us since change is the only
constant in life. So for now, enjoy the deep satisfaction of a job well
done that comes from an alignment of all the states of energy
consciousness that we are composed of but as a flood of water carries with its flood, detritus, so does a release of powerful emotion. Therefore, one can expect a release of pent up emotion soon!
The Elemental 10 of Water/Coastal Water, seems more mysterious in its implications. In twilight, a moon with an "all seeing" eye, representing inner-vision, knowledge and enlightenment, rises above flesh colored Grecian female Spinx. Though flesh colored, she seems frozen as stone. In the Qabalah, the Sphinx, either Egyptian or Greek, symbolizes the Soul, therefore, the soul seems immobile in the darkening unconscious represented by the black sea.
The significance of the coiled serpent, that seems ready to strike, seems to be the "serpent force" of the Kundalini, whose venom can either be healing or poison. The power of the rising, uncoiling Kundalini at the Muladhara or Root Chakra, can unleash all the pent up emotion in a person. As you can imagine, this can be healing or venomous to the person's emotional identity.
The authors of this card are known to "stretch the rules" of astrology by placing planets together, rather than in houses. This card is no exception as they place the glyphs for Neptune and Pluto representing planetary meaning of this card, in the upper left hand corner. According to the authors, this placement of Neptune/Pluto represents, Inner Revelation of Truth.
In a nutshell, Neptuneimplies; Mysticism, dissolution, secret and even powerlessness. While Pluto implies, radical changes, power, uncanniness, and the magick of the Arcane. Therefore, the Inner Revelation of Truth can be represented by comparing the two planets as Power of the Soul.
The god name, Njord, is the Nordic god of seas and ships.
The Egyptian glyphs representing this card, are shown in the lower left corner of this card.
The number 10 and its symbol are on the upper right of this card.
