Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth Tarot- 4 of Swords and The Elemental Tarot- 4 of Air/Ozone.

THE TAROT OF ELIIn the Qabalistic Tarot, Chesed, the fourth Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, is the Universal Architect. Therefore, the Fours suggest perfection, realization,completion  and fixing a matter to a rock solid stability.
In the Four of Swords, this stability is a form of Truce, where equal tension, makes a stability of mental powers.

The Thoth- Four of Swords- Truce, represents Chesed in Yetzirah, influencing the Astral world.
As you may know, mental creation happens in the fluid light of the Astral World before the manifestation is solidified in the Material World.  Now you may not be able to clearly see that you are not a body, the sensuality of the flesh locks your focus on the form; However, you really are a Yod (hand of God) in the Collective Unconscious, so your Real body, is the Tree of Life. The human body is the incarnation, for sensual purposes, of your "dreams" and resides with in the Invisible you.  That Invisible you is as Jupiter,  and in this card, Jupiter is in Libra, Thus the normal destructive Swords, are put to rest in the munificent, benevolent and loving nature  of Jupiter.

The Rose is restored and Consciousness is settled, thus rest from strife is implied by the Four of Swords.  Jupiter in Libra radiates compassion and sensitivity showing the Mercy that is Chesed.
Here Jupiter claims authority in the intellectual world.  Arguing for convention, Jupiter restores mental balance after the chaos of arbitrary thought.

In this Thoth card, the hilts of the Swords, are formed into the corners of the St, Andrew's Cross, suggesting the rigidity and fixation implied in the 4.  The Rose of 49 petals, in which the Swords are sheathed, suggesting social  harmony.
Therefore there is a suggestion of compromise.  As does Crowley, I find this compromise to be a less than positive factor. For it is an act of an indolent mind, that would rather be pusillanimous and compromise for social peace rather than work out the thought through the promised struggle. However, it must be to keep the peace but peace at any cost, is not always preferable; peace because of fear of confrontation, violates the virtue of the one compromising.

The Four of Swords--Truce:  represents the equal focus of the four states of conscious; Spiritual, consciousness, sub-consciousness, and self-conscious (ego to some). This is the meditative, negotiating, and conflict resolving mind. With the flexibility of Jupiter (sign on top of card) and the balancing and non-positional influence of Libra (sign at bottom of the card) this truce making mind that is a four fold process of the four states of consciousness. This four fold process is shown by the four swords (swords represents mind) all meeting at the points in the Lotus of four tiers of the lotus (symbol of enlightened mind).

Truce is an opportunity to move through the issues of conflict which tend to stall our mental processes; represented by the web-like back ground of this card. Truce is called the four fold way;
  1. First one must be present.
  2. Second, pay attention.
  3. Third, tell the truth.
  4. Fourth not be attached to the outcome.The color green represents regeneration and yellow represents the deeply spiritual mind.

The Elemental Tarot 4 of Air/Ozone concentrates on the fixed nature of the Fours. Depicted on this colorful card is a head/Mask, with a large square on its forehead. The square represents rigidity and conformity of mind. The potential for free thinking, peace of mind and liberated thought, is shown as a dove with outstretched wings.

Lack of mental motion is also depicted as a lone blue figure, laying on a bed.

There is however, physical success, as represented by the four ears of corn.

The authors choose to ignore proper astrology, and place Saturn and Neptune together ( upper left of card) as representing , conventional thinking. Okay, the accomplished Qabalist knows that in astrology, planets are placed in 1 of 12 houses, rather than planet placed with planet. So the authors ask us to ignore this fact and compare the two planets:

Saturn sets boundaries, loves structure, security, factual knowledge, rigidity, clarity and sobriety.

Neptune is without boundaries, prefers dissolution, insecurity; is nebulous, intoxicated, and inspirational.

When combining these two, they cancel each other out, so I guess that is a Truce, as communication between both can only happen under compromise. This also suggests the paradox of conventional thinking.

The god name of Quetzalcoatl, at the bottom of the card, is the Aztec god of Wind and breezes. (also an ancient astronaut-from the Orion system).
The blue circle at the bottom of the card, is The Elemental Tarot symbol for the Element Air.
Upper right displays the number 4 and its symbolic square.
 The lower left of the card, displays the Egyptian symbols attesting to the card's definition.

When the Thoth 4 of Swords or The Elemental Tarot 4 of Air/Ozone, card is thrown;

  • Within 4 weeks or 4 months, there is an opportunity for truce, conflict resolution,  negotiation, and resolution with important issues or people in your life.
  • Flexibility rather than a closed mind is needed for true to become a reality. Thus the flexibility of Jupiter and the contentedness and balance of Libra  accomplish this resolution.
  • The four of swords can also represent that in the month of Libra (September 21--October 21) or with the Libra people in your life, there can be truce-making and resolution in the next 4 weeks or four months.
  • This is a favorable time to resolve issues, if you will but focus on the four fold way.
  • There is mental understanding of a matter or relationship coming to full resolution on four levels of mental awareness: The Rational, The Emotional of the Unconscious , The Spiritual, and the Subconscious of the Physical.
  • Implications of problems that should not be ignored, listen to the inner self and answers will be restored.
  • A holding pattern after mastering a difficult mental situation.
  • Retreat or withdrawal necessary to heal or hide, by creating a protected mental space. Here insight can be generated by seclusion.
  • A moment of logic and  discriminating intelligence of integrity and planning.

The negatives of this card are often a:
  • bought of illness, in order to recuperate.
  • The intellect is relinquishing control back to the body so that a time out of from problems and solutions are achieved as the body has only one focus of getting better.
