Tarot Card Comparisons: Thoth Tarot- 6 of Swords & The Elemental Tarot- 6 of Air/Open Air.

The Tarot of Eli Tiphareth is the 6th Sephira on the Tree of Life and therefore the home of the Tarot Sixes. The  Gnostic/Qabalistic adept will find the initiation of Tiphareth the first of the Greater Initiations into the meaning of Self.
This Tiphareth initiation  is literally a scarifying of all that we know to be self, and life as we have lived it.  Here the sacrifice is not relinquishing the much desired something, but rather a transition of Force, from that of the will of lesser consciousness to the Pure Will of the Greater Self. "Thy will be done" rather than, "my will be done'. It is called the "Christ/Buddha" consciousness.
The Four Sixes are about definite accomplishment and carrying out of a matter.

THE THOTH SIX OF SWORDS- Science:
Here, we have Mercury in Aquarius. Thus, this card is also called: Lord of Earned Success.

The Angels of the Decan are: Rehaayal and Yeyezeil . The Six of Swords is influenced by Tiphareth in the Astral World [ Yetzirah].

The air sign of Aquarius, is ruled by Saturn, which tends to stabilize the fleeting qualities of Mercury. The positioning of Mercury in Aquarius, a Mind sign, leads naturally to science and humanitarianism so success is  the result of Saturn's work in this aspect.

Now the cutting power of Swords is turned toward the positive, and the Rose is resurrected after being war-torn in the Fives of Swords, related to the Severity of Geburah. In the Six of Swords, the swords all come together at a point in the restored Rose Cross of Six squares, which Crowley calls, " The Rose Cross at  the central secret of Scientific Truth." (Wisdom-the center of scientific truth.)  Thus, we have the definitive meaning of "success after anxiety and trouble", for the Way of the Cross is suffering before ascension. Here, Tiphareth shows the perfect balance and idea of the card, as all moral and mental faculties are perfectly balanced, won by great effort, but nevertheless, hard to hold in a ever-changing world of political propaganda and commercialized morality.

The completed mundane interpretation of this card is: the perfect balance of all mental and moral facilities, hardly won and almost impossible to hold in an ever-changing world. The Six of Swords is the science of the mind that is both objective and fair-witnessing.

The Six swords, suggesting the form of the unicursal hexagram, all join in the center of the Rosy cross; a Rosicrucian Cross, which is the universal symbol of integration, synthesis and blessing. This indicates that the Six of Swords represents the integrative mind that recognizes sources of inspiration that are sometimes unexplainable.

The holistic mind is symbolized by the circle while the crystalline diamond represents the crystal clear creative mind. This mind can consider many thoughts at once ( the many pin wheels in the background) and integrating them into a whole clarity that is objectively communicated in such a way as to present a new perspective otherwise unseen.

The planet Mercury is seen at the top of the card and Aquarius at the bottom, symbolizing Mercury in Aquarius. Mercury is the winged messenger (clear communication) and Aquarius is the New Age (new perspectives) symbolizing the ability to communicate new ideas in such an objective way that they are easily understood and heard. Therefore creative thinking comes to mind. Having Mercury in Aquarius, makes one thirsty for knowledge, open minded, progressive in thought, and objective. Therefore, this card is the open-minded progressive thinking of the union of Mind and body as a "Mind-Body"; a mind form, rather than two separate evolutions. Thus, the image of god, is seen as a yellow (Sun) unequal armed cross, that represents a human body, and the heart chakra (Anahata) fully open and whole, shown as the central rose. Thereby establishing the impression that the "heart and Mind" are united as one.

When studying Qabalistic Tarot, it behooves the perspicacious to know that the 78 Tarot cards, represent 78 different Aspects of our Collective Unconscious Mind (consciousness is part of that Collective), which we often call our "Psyche" or Soul. We are so fragmented, that we often think we are hearing other "beings" talking to us, or relieve visitations from specters or phantoms, and/or Astral beings, when often it is a fragment (personality) of our Soul, awakened by our actions and presenting itself to us, the active personality, as an  communicative image. The Collective of our individual Psyche, stores all data as images, not words; words may be code, but not the data itself! Since you are an " mental-electron cloud-collective" that is self-aware, and builds all awareness as "form", you can't seem to differentiate what is and what isn't Mind. Remember, form is within the Mind, and therefore, not separate from the Mind anymore than fish are separate from water! The forms may be individualized data clusters, but they still exist within the Collective Mind! Wholeness, is when all our data-fragments work in one United Awareness, no "sleeping parts".

The Elemental Tarot 6 of Air/Open Air, presents symbols that concentrates on intellect, knowledge and communication.
The yellow human figure (the yellow cross on the Thoth Card), with starry banner above, sits upon the world with arms outstretched in openness; defining the axiom,"On top of the World". Instead of Six swords as in the Thoth Card, we have ten arrows of energy radiating out into the universe, communicating their message to the whole universe. Interestingly, ten is the number of the Sephiroth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life.
Three fountain pens radiate outward from the bottom of the world, implying learning, intellect and communication.
A blue panel, with a receptive curve of the globe's shape resides beneath. In that panel, is a mouth, and ear connected by a jagged line. This jagged communication implies gossip, propaganda, scandal and information; much like a radio wave.
The planetary glyphs for Mercury and Jupiter reside in the upper left corner of the Card implying "Successful mental activity". Since Mercury and Jupiter would reside in separate houses, the authors could only mean the combining of these planetary aspects.
Aspects-Mercury - Jupiter
  • Intellect-----Conviction
  • Knowledge--Education
  • Science-----Religion
  • Doubt--------Faith
  • Wording-----Significance of Words
  • Concepts----Meaning
  • Teaching----Preaching
  • Secular------Holy
  • Purpose-----Significance
  • Persuading--Convincing.
Combined, the aspects of both planets could loosely imply successful mental activity.

The Greek god of eloquence and travelers is Hermes.
The Egyptian glyphs used to represent this 6 of Air card are posted at the lower left of this card.
The number six and its symbol are posted on the upper right, while the circle denoting Air is on the very bottom.

When the Thoth 6 of Swords or The Elemental Tarot 6 of Air card is thrown it indicates that:
  • In the next 6 weeks or 6 months it is important to look at things as they are rather than what you want them to be.
  • It is important to be clear in your own mind so that you can successfully communicate new ideas or decisions in such a way as to be nonthreatening and easily heard.
  • This card can also indicate that you should make an special effort to communicate clearly to the important Aquarian people in your life (January 21 to February 21).
  • The Science-mind is clear, sharp and free of confusion, uncluttered with "should have beens" and "wanna-be's".
  • It is a rare state of mind that is important to utilize.
  • The querent is objective, logical and prone to logical thinking.
  • Showing strong analytical ability, and displays logical scientific thinking both internally and outwardly.
  • In Six weeks or Six months , problems will be ended, because the correct, logical things have been done or are being done.
  • Communication patterns are logical, reliable and promote problem solving.
  • There is a general acceptance of attitudes and belief systems that promote rhythmic and cyclic life style.
  • The ability to see things as a whole objective perspective. Here, the mind is watching itself and aids in passage from one world of conscious perspective to another.
The negative of this card, would be:
  • Confusion because of extreme mental activity producing conflicting thoughts, ambiguity  and indecision. Again, depending on the accompanying cards.
