The Thoth Eight of Swords: Interference:
Mental interference is
signified here. This is a Qabalisitic Tarot sign of an active mind, that dashes about
between thoughts and is unable to complete anything of significance; projects lie about half done, confusion is rampant about what is most
important and what is not. In Eastern philosophy this is called the
Neti-Neti mind (translates to ; Not this-Not that) or the common/mundane mind.
The 8 of Swords card
the over analytical, non-trusting mind where survival thinking has
become the foundation of subverted creative thought brought on by self-doubt. Therefore the immediate message of this
card says,"Stop! This is the time to wait rather than act." Running
from thought to thought, not trusting your opinion of which is best or
more certain of creating your survival dreams, accomplishes only
creative mental interference and nothing can be completed.
happiness comes from a state of I AM Me----not from a state of I Am
not. It is time to stop seeking and focus on your inner bliss.
Declaring," I Am the happiness I am seeking" . Happiness is amazingly simple but only seen when one stops the seeking of
happiness that often interferes with our focused creative motion.
"Happiness built me so it could be me" is a realization that has
personally changed my life---it's time to focus on this fact as you.
God doesn't build what God doesn't want; especially its own physical self image! I AM Me, is a whirling force that shouts out-loud!
The 8 of Swords/Interference card helps us see that it
is not what we do or hope for that makes us happy----it is the thinking of our
inner-self that is important. Think well about your physical presence, then all will be present. The Spirit is already here, and makes the body live; the body is the last place of Self Awareness open to us and it requires discriminating thought in order to operate it impeccably. Again the Tarot aids us in the spiritual
axiom," Above all things, know thyself." To do so is to become a primary-conscious source of Force and Form in this universe!
Therefore,THE EIGHT OF SWORDS- Interference, is also called The Lord of Shortened Force. This
card is attributed to Jupiter in Gemini, and Jupiter's natural
expansiveness is in determent in Gemini, as the Duality of Gemini
affects Jupiter's positive energy scattering half one way and half the

can be an intense and positive beginning, but it soon loses momentum in
Crowley illustrates this misdirection in his 8 of Swords, as two
strong and long main swords (conscious and unconscious), being crossed ( as in Crossed-up) by six
short swords of different designs (scattered thoughts).

a definite lack of persistence in intellectual matters and of contest.
Jupiter's natural good fortune still attends even the weakest of
efforts, yet the will is constantly thwarted by accidental interference.
Eight of Swords also implies a certain amount of fear of change, of
moving out of a binding or restricting situation. The Positive side of
this is that change, no matter how resisted, will soon come anyway. The
Good Fortune of Jupiter, will show up. What is again implied, is stop
wasting time and proceed with change, your scattered efforts will not
stop it, only interfere with your wholesome transition.
The Elemental Tarot 8 of Air/Cloud seems to be concentrating on the dual meaning of Gemini. There are two faces, one that is suspended above a undulating landscape, with a bright solar orb on its forehead, implying, bright eyed optimism, and intellectual high. While conversely, the reflected head, is cloudy, murky and losing thoughts as the Crescent moon loses drops of water (water is the element of Consciousness, also, the Moon is the Opposite of the Sun). Obviously this one implies, dullness, low-self-esteem, pessimism and melancholy. This seems to depict the "other-side of the Mirror" dualism of Gemini.
However, the authors use the aspects of Mercury and Saturn (glyphs of the planets in upper left corner) to describe this card as, logical thinking and thoroughness. So let's compare a few of the aspects of Mercury and Saturn.
It may be me, but I see mostly the influence of Saturn's aspects in Logical thinking and thoroughness, as Mercury is more "mercurial" and idealistic. Artistic license is again the salve for the injury here, so all is well.
The god names of Byelbog and Chernobog are the Norse gods of day and night, in that order, again carrying the message of Gemini.
The Egyptian glyphs for this card are shown in the lower left corner.
The number 8 and its glyph is shown in the upper right.
the Thoth 8 of Swords or The Elemental Tarot-8 of Air/Cloud card is thrown during a reading, the querent is experiencing:
- Feeling trapped
Confusion, and a feeling of being trapped, isolated by oppressive ideas or ashamed, are the beginnings of recognizing the need
for change, and moving on ward with your life.
- The mental
dissolution or loss of faith in situations or ideas, is a sure sign of
progress beyond the old. The mind is saying," your perspectives no
longer serve your life motion, so new ideas will soon be presented."
points to the astrological aspect of Jupiter in Gemini; Jupiter being
the planet of growth and expansion and when linked with Gemini this
union requires us to weight different possibilities (Gemini is the sign
of the "twins")
- Over analyzing every thought to
the point of inaction reminding us to stop, slow down and refocus.
the next 8 weeks or 8 months you will either get the chance to slow down
and refocus your thoughts or you will come to an understanding of your
own mental interference and refocus.
- This could also mean that you must
desist your uncertain and scattered thoughts about the Gemini people in
your life (May 21 to June 21) by simply waiting and not taking any
decisive action concerning them.
- Let go and thoughts will become
unconfused and future decisions will become clearer.
- Too much
interference for proper decisions at this time.
