The Thoth-EIGHT OF DISKS is subtitled - PRUDENCE.
Astrologically this card
is Sun in Virgo, the planetary aspect here is a very practice one that
tends to cause concern with small details.
Qabalistically, the 8
Disks (8 of Pentacles in other decks) is Hod (splendor) in Assiah (the
Prudence in the Material world is not always a great virtue, for often
this is the tendency to focus only on the small details while ignoring
the bigger picture.
The Divinitory meaning of this card is, skill, prudence, and over carefulness about small things, at the expense of the great.
on the positive note, the 8 of Disks also shows the abilities to work
steadfastly on knew projects, and having others later on. Often this is
called the Master's card, since it is about focused will, skill with
energy and material matters and is the kind of focused state needed for
meditations. It is about craftsmanship that thinks of the work itself
rather than the goal of reward.
The unique Thoth Deck 8 of Disks is called PRUDENCE but shows impudence by using Disks, rather than Pentacles or
Coins, often shown in other decks. However, the Disk is an appropriate symbol, something
on which Crowley and I both agree.
Disks must be stabilized by a
spinning motion, a circular rotational force, in order to hit their
mark. Even the atoms of rocks are spinning in a centrifugal manner, so
when representing the earthly powers, the spinning of the Disk, with its
internal spin best shows force and form as one presence in motion within the

message in divination, is that of skill, prudence, and over-carefulness
about small things, at the expense of the larger.
But because Hod is
represented by Mercury and Mercury is exalted in Virgo, there is also
predilection for intelligent loving, involving material matters such as,
agriculture, artistic craftsmanship, and engineering.
The Ruler ship
of the Sun in Virgo suggests birth, as well, thus the disks are arranged
in the Gemantic figure Populus. These disks are then shown as flowers
of a Great Tree, rooted solidly in fertile lands.
The Elemental Tarot-8 of Earth/Mountain,
also concentrates its definition on hard work brings rewards. Depicted is an androgynous figure with hands and hair raised to the sky. Implying that this figure in a double earth cube, is receiving energy from above.
The collar has a dual meaning, one of power and one of servitude.
The manifestation of success and material achievement, is shown in the eight orderly golden coins.
The double cube is sunk into hard rock, representing hard work and paying attention to the details. The Two palms, represent the rewards received after the hard work.
The authors of The Elemental Tarot, Caroline Smith and John Astrop, have declined the traditional astrology of placing planets in houses or signs. Rather, they have placed the glyphs of Saturn and Pluto in the upper left of this card. The unstated purpose of this odd comparison is for the purpose of blending aspects of the two planets, into one explanation of," Tenacity and High achievement."
Saturn having the aspects of time (Cronus), and the stolid consistency of lead, while the Planet Pluto is assigned the occult aspects of Spiritual seeking and being. When forged in the cauldron of passion, could become Tenacity and high achievement.
The god-name, Tai-Yueh-Ta-Ti, is the Chinese Emperor of the eastern Peak.
The Egyptian glyphs
, assigned to this card are shown in the lower left hand corner of this card.
The number 8 and its symbol are shown in the upper-right hand corner of this card, while the green square at the card bottom, signifies the element earth.
When the 8 of
Disks/Prudence or The Elemental Tarot-8 of Earth/Mountain, is thrown during a reading, the querent is in:

- The possibility of turning a talent
or skill into a profession.
- Skill in work with energy and forms, such as
fingers working on a manipulative substance.
The negatives would be focusing to tightly on the small details and not seeing the big picture!
- Informs the
querent, that Prudence is a short term focus on the small details, baby
steps rather than a long term goal.
- After about 8 wks or 8 months, there
will be good influences to start a utilizing your learning as a skill
