Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth 6 of Cups-Pleasure and the Babylonian Tarot, 6 of Cups-Pleasure.

The Tarot of Eli The Thoth, 6 of Cups-Pleasure, represents the influence of Tiphareth in the suit of Water.

Tiphareth, the 6th Sephiroth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, is the Son of God (Beauty). In Qabalistic Numerology (gematria) the number Six also represents the Sun.  Therefore, contrary to the Patriarchal Christian doctrine, "The Son of God", is in reference to an "expressive/excited State of Energetic Psyche" and not a sex. Thus the whole image of the Card is that of  the influence of Sun on Water; the Sun is in the sign of Scorpio which is the basis of fertility in life.
In this Qabalistic Tarot card, the depiction of dancing lotus stems, with blossoms gushing forth water into each golden cup, without overflowing implies well-being, harmony of natural forces without strain or effort; the gushing Sun Semen (White light) that fills the magnetic vessel of Earth with the rainbow of being. It is ease-bliss and warm-satisfaction in harmonious rhythm. Pleasure, in this sense, is not gratification of natural or artificial desires. Rather, it is Pleasure in the highest sense and yet it does  emphatically represent the fulfillment of the Sexual Will (Will-to-Be) as shown by the ruling Sephira, sign, planet and element.

The fierce energy of the Sun is in a harmonious state with water as a time of warming before the type of evaporation, a type of containment in motion such as of clouds, rain etc. that nurtures all life, mentally, emotional, spiritually and physically. A warm sensual harmony that can only be described as "The Ecstasy".

The Thoth 6 of Cups- Pleasure, is a pleasure of the Divine Creative's orgasmic flow of Communion.

From the Sepher Yetzirah and the text of the Thirty Two Paths of Wisdom:
In Kether is the Radix of a Golden Glory and thence is there a pure, primitive and sparkling, gleaming golden yellow which is reflected into Tiphareth. This is the first reflected Triad complete. And the sphere of its operation is that of Shemesh, the Solar Light, and bestoweth Life, Light and Brilliancy in metallic matter, and it rideth the sphere of action and of the Sun. And YHVH .
Eloah va-Daath is a God of Knowledge and Wisdom, ruling over the Light of the Universe; and its Archangel is Raphael, the Prince of Brightness, Beauty and Life. And the Name of the Order of Angels is Melechim, that is Kings or Angelic Kings, who are also called the Order of
Virtues, Angels and Rulers.

Lord of Pleasure. As stated, here the Sun is in Scorpio, where it is exalted. The Angels of the Decan are Nelokhiel and Yeyayel.

The influence of the Solar Logos-Tiphareth, in the Mental/Creative World known to Qabalist as Briah.

Already we know that Tiphareth in Atziluth (Beauty in Pure Spirit) means Victory after effort, shown as the Six of Wands. Now we see the Six of Cups as Tiphareth in the Watery World, (Mental/Creative World) as the beginnings of Pleasure, it is the  rhythmic intercourse of  ecstasy, experienced by the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine as they are complete Force and Form communion.
Now many may think me besotted by "sex", as they did about A. Crowley, as we both became claimed by Samahdi (Sanskrit-Ecstasy) and found that "God is Sex", but really who cares? For in truth, the Divine Orgasmic Union, is the "Big Bang", and the ecstasy thereof, is a continual rhythm of Force into Form and Form into force. The Technology of Sexual duality is a Trinity ( will to force, will to form and will to be); this Divine Ecstasy can't be verbalized in any reliable truth, for it is an " sensual experience of the Divine Rhythmic Dance" that pulses as a "heart beat" of the Cosmos; as a spiral whirling dance of intercourse, an inhale-repose and exhale, as non-being into being, into non-being, and/or Force into Form, Form into Force; Creation and Annihilation, into Resurrection.  Therefore, if the Universes seizes to be the "honeymoon suite" of the Divine Creative...then it is back to "no-thing" for us all. Such is the destiny of Souls, who fail the Love the human form they operate, for within each of us, there must be a loving dance of three, the "I AM and Me". Such as the Three Forces of the Divine Masculine that dance with the Three Forms of the Divine Feminine and in their intercourse become the 6th Qabalistic Sephiroth of Beauty on the Tree of Life.

Noted to be a sign of discrimination, magnetism and hidden qualities, Scorpio in the Solar Six of Cups, is like activated Water by Solar influx. Here, Scorpio revels in the Sun, and is likened to a fertile, warm, fruitful Sea--a Spa of Life generating qualities. A flowing beauty,  an inner feeling that I am well acquainted with, being a Natal Scorpio, and a Scorpio Rising, and a Cancerian Moon.

My inner self is a bight pleasure to my Watery/conscious and physical World. Within, Bacchus revels in my halls of Soul-hearth and earthen heart; Satyr-Eli Serabeth and nymph- Elizabeth dancing in my Beth (house or temple) the "honeymoon suite", where I live this card, in a daily Glow of Bright Pleasure of Body and Soul; Twin flames, undimmed by catastrophe. Thus I have no need, as the empty do,  to seek pleasure, for as a Qabalist I am the Oceanic water who flows through the fish it has created rather than a fish in the ocean seeking water; an ignorant pursuit. I am ecstasy; as pleasure is  state of the Great Sea of Binah, as daily being through the forms she creates. In other words, Pleasure is the Fulfillment of the Divine Creative's "Will to Be".

I find that I rise as the Sun, and warm my consciousness, in the glow of Self-Knowledge. Ecstasy is not a seeking, it is Being a Harmonious expression of Passion and creation.

Of course, Scorpio may sting where the Will directs, however, when the Will resides in Beauty-Tiphareth, therefore  Love is the Willful view of Life; the I Am Will rather than I have will and the scorpion's sting is reserved for those who would demean life with vial actions of desecration. (Such as J. Christ cleansing the money changers out of the Temple/Beth, a perfect example of how the Solar Self rides the heart of good or bad value statements).

So as the Sun activates the Forces of Scorpio, gain or pleasure commences. Implied, without need of assurance, is that pleasure and gain will build, as shown by the partially filled cups.

Pleasure, being the natural title of this card, is not that of the mundane and fleeting pleasures of the pain fleeing populace, who must pursue a sense of value that which is already them, but of the highest sense; implying well-being, harmony of natural force and forms without effort or strain but with ease, satisfaction and joy. Yet it does emphatically represent the fulfillment of Sexual Will (technology of Sex), as shown by the ruling Sephira, Tiphareth, sign of Scorpio, Planet Sun, and element of Water. A communion of fertile force and form, that makes all life possible, it is the mating of the Spirit, Sun and the Earth.

The Babylonian Tarot, 6 of Cups-Pleasure, also tries to emphasize this Divine Ecstasy of Union. The pleasure of sexual communion was common erotic art of the period, depicting clay models of couples embracing. Some of these pieces represented the hieros gamos, the sacred marriage of the Divine Creative.

Also a simple supply of food and drink was seen as Mesopotamia's greatest achievements, as they supplied the ability to build civilization and cities. In the city temples, the temple staff, offered sacrificial meals, great banquets to the gods, and then consumed them as eating an drinking was an important social activity for both gods and those who served them. The Babylonians knew that the sensual human form, was built to please the Hu (Mandarin for God) Man (from the Hindu word Manas-Mind), i.e. the god mind for by sensitizing the imagination, one knows pleasure as a statement of creation.
On the Babylonian card, the great Assyrian Warrior King, Ashurbanipal, is shown wining and dinning with his Queen, Tashmetumsharrat.

At the top of the card is a man and woman in a kissing embrace.  The six fluted cups are accompanied by the solar disc and the scorpion, the astrological marriage of this card. The cuneiform symbol of the number six, is centered in the card.

When the Six of Cups-Pleasure is thrown during a reading, the querent is experiencing:
  • Emotional pleasure, in a period of 6 weeks or 6 months of giving to and receiving  pleasure form others.
  • A period of innocence and taking great pleasure in one's childlike qualities.
  • They maybe experiencing an orgasmic rush of feelings, a wave of ecstasy that even sad feelings being actively expressed, feel good in release.
  • The querent may also be experiencing sweet memories  of the past, as past efforts bring present rewards.
  • Samahdi
  • Happiness, indulgence,gratification, gain, success.
  • Sharing pleasant memories.
  • In the period of six weeks or six months, the beginning of a wish, happiness, success, enjoyment.
  • Commencement of gain in a steady increase of pleasure, But a commencement only.
  • Sexual pleasure is also depicted here as in a higher state of harmonious union of the Dual Creative. Such as a Tantric would strive to experience.
  • Amiable and  patient emotions will also be experienced.
If ill defined by accompanying cards:
  • Overly nostalgic.
  • The false pleasure of living in the past.
  • Failure to adapt to present circumstances.
  • Disturbing memories.
  • Affront, defective knowledge (perverted sexual knowledge) contention and strife arising from unwarranted self-assertion and vanity.
  • Sometimes thankless and  presumptuous.

If the student of Tarot vigorously studies and skries the Six of Cups-Pleasure, by investigation of the Sephira-Tiphareth, the Sign of Scorpio, The Sun, and the Pythagorean Element of Water (as an Alchemical element), they will find that this card is the actually the highest sensual/spiritual card in the Suit of Cups; the "Sacred Mass" before revisionism. For it is the Pleasure of Union, that is the God (Fire) and Goddess (Water) in Communion, that builds this entire Universe of Force and Form. In other words, the Big Bang is an orgasm of Energy that spreads forever outward in a joyous flow like a living warm and bright water.  Now I know that most people will not seek to understand this Passionate flow of creation, and condemn sex as belief in the division of body and spirit as a fundamentalist is wont to do; but if you do understand that "Spirit doesn't build what it doesn't want", you'll be greatly rewarded with a Sun of  Rapture glowing in your Navel Chakra and warming the Heart Chakra, as if in a summer sunrise.
