Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth 9 of Swords & The Babylonian Tarot, 9 of Arrows-Cruelty

The Tarot of EliThe Thoth-NINE OF SWORDS-CRUELTY:
Astrologically this card is Mars in Gemini, the fiery Mars energy can do no good in this sign of dualities.

To a Qabalist, this is Yesod (Foundation) in Yetzirah (Astral World). The Astral world, where passions become form in liquid light that flows to manifestation, which in itself is deceptive. However, thought is even more so with the Martial Foundational energy of manifestation influencing Gemini. Here identity becomes divided against itself. Deceptions now become cruel realities.

The mundane divination meaning of this Sword card is despair, illness, suffering and cruelty.

In the Thoth Deck, the 9 of Swords is shown as eight beaten and battered rusty swords dripping poison and blood; needless to say this card shows no boon.
Here the realm of Dreams (Astral) is influenced by mental self-cruelty, negative thinking, and mental degradation. There is a deep depression here but surcease may become apparent in the next 9 weeks or 9 months.

Often we are hurt by the chaos of daily life, and this card is about crying about that hurt rather than doing something about it. Often I hear people say," God took my loved one away from me," or what kind of God would allow a baby to be shot and killed." etc.  The answers aren't easy nor pleasant for such devastating events but they have nothing to do with the Divine Creative's desire. They are all about Freedom to be us, through self-definition!

The Divine Creative gave us the inheritance of God/Goddess by creating us as The Wholly Child of many faces (all peoples); for when Imagination is infinite, there are infinity possible self images. We, who are but self-images/identities of the Divine Creative, have absolute command over our created reality both individually and as a group. Pure mind is not empathetic, therefore, we need sensuality, in order to learn discernment.  If we create a world where value isn't life, but artificial ideas, money, and things, our world will be fueled by greed, ambition, theft, murder; a cruel and devastating world of survival thinking where hands are poised over weapons, or fingers over a panic button of destruction, rather than intimately caressing life.

Truth is Life, and/or the manifested presence of a thing, not the thoughts, fears or emotions that we are programed to think and feel; for those are the hot bed of the Trickster ( Devil, i.e.,lived spelled backwards) that is our self absorbed survival thinking, curled as a venous serpent in our brain; always poised to strike. Truth is made manifest!  So if we allow cruelty, because of fear of vulnerability, a world of hate, of destructive slave-religions, of megalomaniac politics, of ENEMY; our own brain becomes that enemy.

This is the amazing power we wield; we become our dreams! When Dreams are driven by fears, they become nightmares and then we fear the nightmares giving them the emotional power to become our reality. Living a nightmare is cruel, being a nightmare is suffering.

Spirit is psycho-dynamic therefore, it is the Mind that is over matter! Passion or the Will to Form, is the foundation of all creation. Therefore, when your passion to be is "trying not to be", being becomes what you don't want to experience.

I AM is the Universal declaration of Self (existence) and the beginning of all of us. "I Ain't", is man-made fantasy of "good and bad"; a cruel place of denial.  Often we forget that denial is a fantasy brought about by our fear of vulnerability. However, whatever is thought and emotionally fueled, will become . Since there is no "Ain't", nor a "I am not", for to think a thought places it in a Universe of Infinite Creative Possibilities; what you fervently declare you are not, is what your energy-in-motion flows to. Like attracts like, as the law of attraction implies.

It is all about applied emotion (energy-in-motion), acting as form. This is known to the Qabalist as Force and Form. The Force is "Will-to-Force" (emotion) and the Form is thought/idea/visions of self; "Will to Form". When we are utilizing our Force and Form without Self-Knowledge, allowing the ambitious (leaders) to direct our emotional forces towards cruel identities,  we become thoughtless to the devastation we cause to be ourselves. We then build "The Enemy", (the realm of the conspiracy theorist) who is a necessary transference of our own inner fear of vulnerability so that we can cope with our own fear of mortality. However, this is seeking blame for our own lack of self -knowledge which leaves us ignorant of how to operate the Power Tool we call "our bodies". There can be nothing crueler than a world built by the Power of the gods (imagination) when that power is utilized by the indoctrinated minds of slaves who hate and fear their vulnerability. To fear vulnerability is to reject the cause of all our great character traits; empathy, generosity, caring, loving, union, compassion, truth-telling (to lie is to fear being vulnerable), morality, and impeccability.

The Power to Create anything is an amazing gift, but the power to create yourself, is magnificent! Freedom of Choice allows us to create our own self-identity; but be clear here, only gods can make themselves less than what they really are!
Dogs can never be less than dogs, lizards are always lizards and birds will be birds but the Children of the Divine Creative can be anything they "Believe themselves to be"!

The Thoth Tarot,  9 of Swords reminds us that
fear is belief, and lives only in our brain! Knowledge is preformed as deed! Declarations make our reality! "I Am Love", builds a world of loving beings. "I Am looking for love", builds a world of denial, and self cruelty, and devaluation of the living, where babies are shot in the name of a religion's god (religions are based on a foundation of "fear of vulnerability") and/or our pursuit of happiness, i.e. "our vision". That name is I AM! It is OUR  surname! Realities are "Me", our invention of self definition. "Me's" are made from energy motive definition, i.e. "Will to Form". When mental self cruelty defines us...welcome to being a living hell!
Self-Cruelty, is merely being irresponsible with your "Force and Form", for each of us is the ruling Psyche/Soul of our "form of expression"/body!

Often at self-motivational conventions,  we stand up with arms upraised yelling, " I am power"! Yet, when we are alone, we also raise our arms and yell, "Save me".

Souls who imagines themselves as "living", must remember, that we must created the pain and pleasure we feel. "I am the pain, I feel as me", or "I am the pleasure I feel as me", is how it is done when one is both Force of Mind and the sensuality of Form.  Slaves need saviors, free people have saved themselves.

The Babylonian Tarot, 9 of Arrows-Cruelty,
once again concentrates on the cruel royal sport of lion hunting, that was often practiced in ancient Mesopotamia and often depicted in Neo-Assyrian art.

Some of us may not approve of this old practice, as we now know that "fear of vulnerability " often makes us kill others as a "coping mechanism", rather than become responsible for our own force (emotion) over thought. Survival thinking demands cruelty to others, to prove how tough we are.

Be that as it may, sometimes inscriptions were attached to such painted scenes, relating the terror experienced by tributary kings who were forced to take part in such a close quarters hunt, using both arrow and spear.

Also, lion hunting was often a spectator sport, where people sat on hill sides, with a picnic lunch, overlooking a wide open field where chariot riding royalty went about their slaughter of lions.
The Babylonian Tarot card depicts a wounded lion, reacting savagely to his pain and attacking the wheel of a chariot. Eight arrows are shown pointing downward, a sign of doom. One arrow is pointing upward, as a salute to the lion's courage.
The cuneiform symbol for the number nine is shown above the lion's head.

When the 9 of Swords, or the Babylonian Tarot,9 of Arrows- Cruelty is thrown during a divination, it implies:
  • Mental cruelty.
  • Despair.
  • Loss of a loved one.
  • Oppression, suffering, burdens.
  • Martyrdom.
  • Over whelming paralyzing fear.
  • Suffering that may bring new found strength to weather the storm.
  • Anger, and depression turned inward.
  • Self hate, displayed as self destructive behavior.
