Tarot Card Comparisons: The Hermetic Thoth Tarot- 4 of Wands-Completion & the Connolly Tarot- 4 of Wands

The Tarot of EliThe Qabalistic Thoth  Four of Wands refers to the 4th Sephira- Chesed (Mercy)-The Great Architect- in the suit of Fire. Therefore representing the manifestation of all active power below the Abyss.

The Will of the Two of Wands, Dominion, has been transmitted through the Three of Wands-Virtue and has become a solid system, such as Order, Law, and Government.

In the zodiac the Four of Wands refers to Venus in Aries, which indicates that one can't establish one's work without tact and gentleness.

The Ram headed wands are sacred to Chesed, while the Dove is sacred to Venus. The Circle shows the completion of and limitation of the original work. The flames show the balance of the energy applied.

The Thoth-4 of Wands-Completion card reminds us that in order to energetically move forward, we must at first complete what we have already put into motion. This is also a symbol of spiritual and holistic completion but any way you look at it, something is being completed and there is a desire to begin something new.

Being representative of Eastern mandalas or Native American medicine wheels, suggesting a completed action. Also in the wheel itself are the Aries Ram and the Venus Doves, all characteristic of completion and new beginnings shown in the form of a closed circle. The Four of Wands, is a card of wholeness and individualization that represents simultaneously completion of past and initiating a new future.
Venus symbolizes emotional desire to move in new directions while Aries represents a sense that there has been completion or consummation of projects, issues or relationships, before moving forward. Relationships, because Mars, the ruler of Aries, is also the mythological husband of the Roman goddess Venus.
It behooves the reader of Tarot, to understand that this is a lot of power formed into work that will go no further---it is done.

The Connolly Tarot-4 of Wands, is actually busier than the Thoth card. It depicts, labor, and work successfully completed as a harvest of grapes growing from the four wands.

By picturing both a Female and a Male reaping their labors, the home in the background, and the couple dressed in the same colors, also suggests a marriage of  Venus and Aries.
This card well illustrates the peace and satisfaction that comes from a job well done.

When the 4 of Wands card is thrown it indicates:
  • That in the next 4 weeks or 4 months should be a good time to move in new directions while simultaneously completing things.
  • This card also cautions you to make sure that you have completed other issues, projects and relationships before you do move into other directions especially with any important Aries people in your life (March 21- April 21).
  • The 4 of Wands card may also be a rite of passage. A joyful celebration and reward after labor.
  •  A time of rest and relaxation after completing a difficult task.
  • Settlement, arrangements completed, Perfected work.
  • Since much energy went into establishing such work it also symbolizes a completion of a work within 3wks or 3 months, built up with trouble and labor.
  • It is also  rest after labor.
  • There is also a degree of subtlety, cleverness, and mirth in this card as the Aries Ram is involved.
  • Venus insures beauty, and success in completion.
  • Conclusions drawn from previous knowledge attribute to a healthy reasoning faculty.
If ill dignified:
  • Sometimes insincere, not ready, unreliability, unsteady, through over anxiety.
  • Can also mean hurried action.

Thank you for your interest, comments and supportive donations. May you live long and prosper.

I AM MEAN on Monday, September 07, 2015 3:06 AM

I dreamt last night of looking directly at the sun in the sky, for the first time I can recall. Examined its accuracy to the sun of reality. I bring this up because the "flames" at the center look like a sun to me. Even the markings on the wands in the center seem to sum an "8 pointed" sun image. What's up with that?

The blue mandala is pretty. I wish I understood the meaning of the one next to it, the role of the four colors to the states of being. Looks interesting. May you live long and prosper.

Hi Mean, the sun/fire is the element of the card. The medicine wheel is of the four directions and how they relate to our being, and how a balance of all four keeps us healthy. Thank you for your comments. May you live long and prosper!
