THE HEBREW LETTER--HEH.
symbolic meaning: Window
is much about the "I Am"
to explain but words are not the true
explanation of "I Am" which is the English translation of Heh. In fact
the story of Heh ( Hebrew word:Hinenni
which is a composite of
Heh means "Here I Am").
Moses and the burning bush
us of a great miracle of enlightenment, where Moses mentally and
physically climbs to new heights and witness a miracle beyond his normal
perceptions of "I" sight.
At first he can't believe his eyes, but after God
spoke from the burning bush, and called Mose's name twice---Moses
responded with "Here I Am'. Thus showing that he has heard and is ready
to do as bid by God.
The Hermetic Qabalah Thoth Tarot- Emperor card-Key 4, is the first Conscious
sense----the first enactment of energy on form; it is the eye (I) sight
of conscious energy. It is the Fire (Spirit) that is seen---Light from Darkness.
It is the Window that looks out onto form. But this is not easily understood in
worded definitions. Moses had to go through many actions before he
could "See the Light";
A). He had to go out into the wilderness; seek
solitariness of self contemplation leaving behind the definitions of
B) He sees an angel; through meditation processes that take us
out into the unexplored areas of our consciousness(wilderness) we find
our inner "Guardian Angel").
C). He notices that a bush is burning but
is not consumed; our perspectives of sight, change through greater
awareness and we see the spiritual fire---or as I see, the Human Aura
which is a "solar Fire" around the human body that doesn't consume.
And after all this, is when he hears the Voice of God but he must hear
it twice to be sure its real.
Hence, this is obviously a story about the
inner journey we all must take to be able to claim our inheritance as
"Children of The Divine Creative:" and only then is our purpose made clear. We now have a
Window, in which to see through illusion and view the Real.
order to get a glimpse of
understanding about the Emperor Card, we have
to Know the Empress (Path of Daleth: Door). I know this sounds odd, but realize for a moment
that Binah (The Great Mother) is a Yod unconscious energy that crosses
over to the Heh-Chokma (The Great Father) conscious energy, thought the Path of the Empress-Daleth; The
Empress being the balance between Chokmah and Binah. Therefore The Hermetic Empress
growth process that comes from the union and/or the interaction of male
and female as the fertilized cell; She is fruition. The Emperor,
although he is a potent masculine energy, is Heh on the Paths, meaning
that his function is determined by Binah. In fact, Chokmah (Wisdom); the
primary quality of maleness (electric force) is a Hebrew female noun, and in this case used because
we have taken the point of view that whatever gives birth is exercising a
primary female quality at the moment of birth. To make a long story
short, the male is inherent in the female and the female is inherent in
the male, which is a real transformation function of a given energy
We may understand this
inheritance as the "contra sexual component"
postulated by Carl Jung which states that in the unconscious, the male
harbors the perfect female image and the female harbors the perfect male
image in her unconscious as well; the Animus (male, Latin:Soul) and Anima (female, Latin:Spirit).
In truth for one energy to not be created nor destroyed, it must only
transform. Transformation is both a process of male-electric dynamic motion and female
formation (magnetic form). It may boggle the Mind, but there really
isn't a separation of male and female. We are both conscious (male)
and unconscious (female) because she produces the "form" that he must
act on. Imagination, is both active idea and form! Hence The Emperor is a window of
"insight" about Union rather than the "outsight" of divisionism. And
without this window of insight. The human "I" can't see Father-Logos! The Emperor is
"I Am" (Meaning: existence) sight; the first sense enacted on Form.
As I have stated , THE EMPEROR, is the Path of Heh
and its function is determined by Binah who is pure fruition.
The Path of Heh
is a formative path of rational and classifying activities. It's
bright Red color is that of Binah (The Great Mother) in the World of
Pure Spirit known as Atziluth. Albeit, that the male and female forces
are seen as more interwoven in the lower levels as we go down the Tree
of Life, the assumption that Chokmah and Binah are the only "Pure"
states of Male and Female force is in error; as Chokmah (Wisdom),
meaning the primary quality of maleness, is a female noun. Taking the
point of view that whatever gives birth is exercising a primary female
quality at the moment of birth
, then all that is inherent in the
male is inherent in the female and visa verse. We can see this by
understanding that the Creation of Chokmah, gave birth to maleness, and femaleness. Thus relegating action to masculine- will to force and receptiveness to feminine- will to form.
The students of Carl Jung know that he stated the "male harbors the perfect female image in his unconscious, as the female harbors the perfect male image in her unconscious",
these being the "counter sexual component" necessary for the
transformation of force and form. Jung also called the "counter-sexual
components", the Anima (female) in males and the Animus (Male) male in females. The Anima, means spirit in Latin and the Animus is Latin for soul. Thus we can see that THE EMPRESS is Anima/Spirit (oval egg: Magnetic of One energy) and THE EMPEROR is
Animus -Soul (Spiral linear energy : Electric of One Energy), making the
perfectly developed male type on the Paths THE EMPEROR and the
perfectly developed female type, THE EMPRESS. These are the pure
intelligent forces that we meet and actually converse with on the Inner Paths of Psyche.

To simplify, if we think of the One Collective Universal Mind as a Human Brain, albeit a
simplistic objective comparison, then One has become two, female and
male in One Intelligent organism , as is the human brain.
the Sun that is Tiphareth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life,
is in the sign of Aries, which is also the sign of
This Path, indicates that THE EMPEROR exercises some control over the
Solar forces of the Higher Self.
Thus, we have the termConstituting Intelligence
meaning that THE EMPEROR assists in the building up of the Linear Light
of Tiphareth from the utter-darkness of Limitless Light of the Supernal
Triangle (upper triangle on the Tree of Life). This Path of Heh, could also be considered
as the "start of Time" in infinity. In the Thoth Deck card, this
importance of Tiphareth to THE EMPEROR is illustrated by the Sun behind
his head and the overall two colored scheme of Martian reds and Sun
yellows. These two colors also suggest a furious/"divine frenzied" rush
of often short-lived linear activity, such as lightning.
In the Sepher Yetzirah (Qabalistic text) the letter Heh is a simple word meaning, sight or window.
This is well represented in THE EMPEROR, since he is the "Fiery Aspect
of the Garden of Eden" of which the Higher Self relates as a
Self-observation of the One and/or the origin of "I Am". It is the first
path that is attributed to a function, suggesting that "I" sight (identity) is the
first of the senses, as Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac.
Therefore this Path of Heh, THE EMPEROR, is what I call the First "I"
sight, while the EMPRESS is the "Am" of understanding (an inner sight I
call a "Womb with a view"). Together they are the "I AM"; the Counter
Sexuality of the One Mind/Energy.
All this word
manipulation, no matter how droll,
contributes to the understanding that the Constituting
that is the Emperor, is the first phase of a natural cycle, such as Aries
bringing forth Spring. This understanding is shown as the lamb at the Thoth
Emperor's feet and the Ram headed wand. Paternal Power is shown by the
bees and Fleur de Lys
. The two headed Eagle in front of a crimson
disc that is on the Thoth Emperor's shield, symbolizes the Alchemist's red
tincture related to the Sun and Gold. There is a similar eagle on THE
EMPRESS card that refers to the Moon and Silver.
The Jungian Tarot of Robert Wang, depicts the Emperor as the Great Father figure of the Divine Animus. He rationally administrates a harsh kingdom. His process of reason is so abstract that it seems to have no object, as depicted by the very distant castle image.
The intentionally phallic Wand of Creation is in his right hand and the Sword of destruction or punishment is in his left.
Carl Jung saw the Father as a lesser significance on a child's life than the Mother; thinking that the Mother played a greater part in the physiological formation of the child than the Father. This concept, is similar to the symbolism of Tarot.
As we study the Major Arcana, one comes to realize that the relationship between Mother and Son is philosophically primary.
This is totally symbolic, as the emerging consciousness from the Unconscious, is seen as "The Mother nurturing the Son" while the Father stands as the guardian of the whole process. This symbolic process is also seen in the English language, as the Anglo-Saxon word Lady, means "doler of Grain" and the word for "guardian of Grain" is Lord.
The Emperor is the very essence of Father, in real life experience. Therefore, although metaphysical symbolism is subjective it cannot become objective unless it is applied to real life experience.
Metaphysically the Emperor represents the "Will to Force", the outgoing which inseminates. Hence, a martial force that which is restricted and acted upon by the formative (Will to Form) female. Objectively as forces go, he is electricity and she is magnetism.
What I have mentioned before, and will again, is that although the Father is Law giver, the Father forgives but the Mother does not. This is because, the Father allows total freedom to the infant, while the Mother teaches structure and rule to the developing spiritual child.
When THE EMPEROR card is thrown during a reading it emphasizes the Archetypal Personality Characteristics of:
- The Principle of Personal Power and Leadership.
a pure base of Knowledge while remaining open minded, pointing towards
success, authority, stability and ambition in gain or achievement.
- Self realization of Life Force and Personal Power.
- One who does inflict punishment, while also being very protective of "his own".
- A provider of support, strength and fatherly love.
- When it comes to personal interaction and conversation, one may be verbal, intellectual, and rational, sometimes to an extreme that may seem cold.
ill defined by attending cards, the querent is up against a dominant
boss, or authority figure (s) who sets rules, boundaries, definitions
