The Thoth,Key 20: The Aeon/Judgment.
The principle of good judgment that is utilized in both personal and professional situations.
Egyptian Goddess Nut (Nuith), the dark Sky Goddess, curves over the figure of
Osiris, Egyptian God of Wisdom ( Chokma on the Tree of Life) who married
Isis, Egyptian Goddess of Intuition (Binah on the Tree of Life). The
union of Isis & Osiris gave birth to Horus, the God of Perception, which is seen as three floating fetuses.
Nuith makes the sign of Leo; the zodiac Leo represents creative and professional power.
The Thoth card reminds us that properly used creativity makes positive
impact in both family and professional career. Osiris, with his finger
in his mouth, reflects that wisdom comes from experience; to create,
see error and correct it, is the path of wisdom. Therefore, Wisdom is
not randomly spoken, for it is an experience of outer-error being corrected by inner-self.
The red-winged eye of Horus at the bottom of this card represents inspired vision that gives us the whole-view of any situation. We should understand that by creating error and correcting that error, we become wise. Those who do, make mistakes, those who don't do, are the mistake. Even further, those who are unwilling to "go too far", never find out how far they can go!
Here we have Astral transformation of "fluid light"
that soon becomes physical manifestation of "crystalline light". It pays to remember, that emotion, is energy-in-motion, and it is hot. Heated emotion applied to a "liquid light" thought, will crystallize in the human crucible of being and modify the person. Therefore, be passionate; but be careful what your passion is focused on. Again, "Above all things; Know thyself"!
Everything is a symbol of the
One Self, for everything proceeds from a generating idea
(self-awareness) which is related to transcendent conception. I (Osiris)
Am (Isis) Me (Horus)...is the generating principle of manifestation. We
are the Divine Me, a creative progeny communicating to the Whole of Spirit (Holy Ghost) as I
Am! We need never leave that which we truly love, which is creation,
for all we become truly aware of, we become! Becoming never ends, it is
the love process of being!
The Path of Shin-20-The Aeon: Also called the path of-
The Twentieth Key
Primary Path color: Radiant Orange-Scarlet.
Musical Note: C Natural.
Qabalistic/Esoteric Title: The Spirit of the Primal Fire.
This is the 31st Path of Wisdom known as The Perpetual Intelligence,as coined by Dr. Paul Foster Case, because it regulates the motions of the Sun and Moon; each in an order convenient for it. The Path of Shin
is also known as the Judgment tarot card in traditional decks, because
it joins (the orange path on the right lower side of the Tree of Life
glyph) the Earth (Malkuth) with Splendor (Hod), the base Sephira and completion of the Pillar of Severity ( The right side of
the Tree of Life --your left if looking at it)--forms a Pillar to the top
Black circle that is Binah. In the Hermetic Qabalah this is known as
the Pillar of Severity.
The Earth/ the Sephira Malkuth, is now connected to the ultimate expression of Binah (Goddess/Mother) which is the Will to Form that is the activating Path of Intellect and/or Imagination, while the opposite,The Moon, is a formative Path of emotion.
Therefore this Judgment, is
a process undergone by the Personality as it strives to become
conscious of its own inner working and thereby develop Wisdom. It is perpetual process of
monitoring of the Personality toward universal consciousness or what I
call "Claiming your Divine Inheritance".
The Solar- powers, of the Fiery Creative (the yellow and orange background of the Thoth card)
invoked by the desire of the path traveling student, slowly burn away
that which is deemed unworthy of Divine Inheritance by the redeeming fire;
a process that is actually physical and can be associated with the
Kundalini Fire of the Root chakra as it rises up the spine towards the
Brain. This is the intellectual "Splendor of the Material World"( as noted by the
Golden Dawn) that points out the relationship of the Path of Shin to the
physical body as a state of Resurrection or Rebirth. Thereby being the Path
where the components of the Personality are first encountered in the Universe;
being critically analyzed and judged (evaluated). It is a bright and
Fiery probationary path of the intellect while the Moon is the dark,
cold and watery probationary path of the emotions. Both are the
introduction to the true nature of Self (Greater Self) in incarnation
and can thus be extremely difficult. That is one reason why people are
cautioned about "Raising the Kundalini"(primal life force).
As seen in the Thoth 20-Aeon card
all elements are present on this path, either active or inactive--which
is to say expressed (seen-active) or unexpressed (unseen passive)
making these Elemental Paths difficult to understand. Shin
four alchemical Elements/Archetype Personalities of the Divine: Fire
. The evolution of
the cosmos is from the subtle (simple) to the most complex; from nothing
to something. Our psyche evolved from simple Quanta
(sub-atomic particle) to complex molecular structures. In all things,
the whole is implicit in the developing parts.
In the Thoth deck, The Aeon,
supersedes all earlier concepts of the Key, and show the harmonious and
spiritual state of human existence which will be on earth in the 22
century (according to Crowley). This is symbolized by the Goddess Nuith
(Nut), and her consort Hadit
(seen as a golden orb of light). Their
union births Harachte (Meaning: "Horus from the Horizon")
thus promoting the name Horus
(Meaning: "god of the world, light and the Heavens"
) who shown as seated and standing depicting his active and passive forms. Hence, Horus represents the "higher mind manifested in the lower self".
Another name for Horus is Heru (meaning: "he who is above") which is synonymous with Hru,
"The Great Angel set over the Tarot". This card, according to
Qabalistic doctrine, also symbolizes the passing of the 500 year period
of darkness and trial, preparatory to a new Aeon of Light"; explaining
why Crowley named it THE AEON.
The B.O.T.A. Tarot-Key 20:JUDGMENT,
follows the traditional course for this key. Here the stage of mental unfoldment is called Realization;
another aspect of wisdom.
Realization, as represented on this card, is the point where the self-conscious is beginning to merge with the Universal Consciousness.
The limiting factors of word, name, and form of this world of survival thinking are represented as the coffins which are being put away, as those who thought they were dead are arising into the "light" of Realization of resurrection or new birth.
This arising,,is accomplished by the original Vibration of Kether, and/or Life-Breath, which is being symbolized by the Angel Hru, blowing it's Tarot-trumpet.
Reasoned conclusions, are represented as the cross on the banner; relating to the word assigned to this colorful card. Hence, correct judgment depends on right reasoning and the ability to weigh and measure the factors involved.
The Angel Hru, is a representation of the True Self, surrounded by the clouds of water (masks of perception), appearances caused by the operation of self-conscious identity; i.e. words. Therefore, the Tarot is the utterances of the True Self, in the forms of image; as Image is the language of the Imagination, who is the Image (form)-Maker of all creation, the Watery Womb of the Great Divine Universal Unconscious.
The arresting of the flow of mind-stuff (liquid light) into crystallized thought, is shown as icebergs.
The Zodiac is represented as the twelve rays of light radiating from the clouds and the seven planets are represented as seven rays from the trumpet.
The three human images represent the three states of the One Mind:
- The man represents the self-conscious.
- The woman represents the Unconscious.
- The child represents their progeny, the personality.
The figures are all grey, because it is the color attributed to Chokmah/wisdom and the astral plane.
The Hebrew letter, Shin, is depicted on the lower right of this card.
When the Aeon or Judgment card is thrown during a divination, it implies:
- Becoming ones real self.
profound insight into the eternal cycles of becoming and passing.
card shows that the beginning of the new that already carries its end
- Final decision.
- Determination of a matter by the Soul, without appeal by the consciousness.
