Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth Tarot- 5 of Disks: WORRY & The B.O.T.A. Tarot-5 of Pentacles.

The Tarot of EliThe Thoth-FIVE OF DISKS: Worry:
Astrologically this card is Mercury in Taurus. And as shown by the reversed pentagram and the symbols of the five Hindu Tattvas, (geometric forms on the points of the pentagram, meaning Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and Spirit), the normal stability of the material world is in chaos.  Everything is "upside" down.

The Qabalistic Thoth 5 of Disks card represents Geburah (severity), the 5th Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, in Assiah (Material world) which is disturbing in the world of profession and monetary resources.
Therefore, the Fives, are of a conscious energy state of Severity (Geburah). The Five of an element, such as the 5 of Disks-Earth, are the idea of motion coming to the aid of the material of that element. The Fours represent Perfect stability, which is  a state of stasis, and energy in stasis, is the end of motion. This would be the end of the Moving Universe,i.e. the end of the alive. Thus, the  severity of the fives is needed to "kick start" the engine of Life before it succumbs to the demands of entropy.

Again the message, that change is the only constant, rings loudly in the Fives.

Hence, in the statically stabilized system, a storm arises and stresses the system into an unbalance, thus, a new motion is begun. Knowing this, we know the Fives are not "evil" but rather just the opposite. For it would be evil (live spelled backwards) to insist on not moving.

For many of us westerners, the Buddhist doctrine of  Sorrow implicitly states that inertia and insensitive mental states must characterize peace which is a form of stasis. Thus "Life is Suffering", is not a negative, but a positive motion towards change that is both empathetic and concerned with individual progress.

When we stay inert because we hurt, we are losing motion because lack of understanding won't let us move, and to be alive---is to move.  "Alive", is an animation with the ability to be observant, and thus able to change direction when needed. Every experience, every phenomena is Sacred to Knowledge.  So every Phenomenon is a Sacrament. Pleasure and Pain are both honored guests, in the Divine Temple of Human Being. Not because we are obsessed with them, but because they are the Hierophants that teach us. Pain teaches us error, and pleasure teaches us accomplishment, each to be enjoyed in the moment, and then changed into a new motion.  Be that as it may, a disturbance is disturbing, and the 5 of Disks-Worry is a type of mental strangulation on our own emotion. Hence, our peace is being assaulted, and therefore the damn must break!

This is not only mental worry, common to all of us from time to time, but worry as in a dog worrying (Anglo-Saxon) sheep. Whereas the dog grabs the sheep's throat in its teeth and stops the sheep from moving. It is a necessary stop to facilitate a reshuffling of  emotions, mind, body,  and soul. Disrupting yes, but also necessary to reconstruct a new direction and therefore, a more successful state of physical prosperity.

Therefore, the 5 of Disks represents a state of strain, without the benefit of action...much like a fully drawn bow that is unable to release the horrible tension it is under for that action belongs to the bowman. In this case, our Survival-Mind -Animal Self is the bowman here, who lives in the past and fears vulnerability.  To such a fear based self-consciousness, launching the arrow of desire is to risk loosing the arrow and one worries. To expand our personality, we must stop using our "past" as a foundation for our thought as it won't release the terrible tension of fear it has created. The Mercurial Force, a high state of activity, is being held back by outdated and fearful emotional thought...in other words survival thinking.

The Five of Disks (Pentacles) is a wake up call, telling us that our present state of thinking cannot help us overcome the natural friction of physical material and that we must see these momentary issues of friction as an aid in the collapse of worrisome thought so that new possibilities lay open to us.  Sure, we have setbacks, hardship, and conflicts, because we are using the same thought process over and over again---and unwisely expecting different results.

When ever I (The Psyche) experience the "Survival Mind's" insistence of fear based thought, I just tell it," To get over yourself and get on with You, because impeccability is what We do!". This helps break up the "data-loop" of continual focus on discomfort and allowing me to appreciate what I do have and launching my body-mind-spirit trinity in new directions. We all are more than one state of mind (we talk to ourselves all the time, proving more than one occupies our thought processes), the Tree of Life shows us that we are at least 10!

Impeccability to me is to always be true to your "inner-Self", and focus on the Wonder-filled presence that the metaphysical collective of Fire, Air, Water, Earth and Spirit has created as YOU!

I know that I am "Good Enough For God", because I AM Me, and the Divine Creative doesn't create what it doesn't want! So I also know that the "Me" that I AM Free to Create
is ever-changeable and ever-possible and ruled only by the Soul that I AM. I AM Me, is my ternary presence in the Collective Worlds of Spirit....(Earth is one of those worlds). The Tree of Life explains Ten Spiritual Worlds----and they are US!

Since in the Hermetic Qabalah the Disks are cards that represent the physical, and/or objective world as it appears in the manifested element, the 5 of Disks represents physical worry, concerns, and rumination.
It is a state of consciousness that dwells in the past and looks forward into a feared future but doesn't live in the now. By not living in the now, we are not present today, which doesn't allow new perspectives or thoughts to change our mental emotional direction: for we are "dead" to today's action and unable to move.  This worry is a general effect of a long strain with out action; a general state of inaction. Health, finances, work, relationships and/or creativity are the concerns here.

Astrologically this card represents Mercury in Taurus, also symbolizing communication worries. Worrying about whether your communication efforts are coming across correctly or if you even have the ability to communicate at all.

The B.O.T.A. Tarot-5 of Pentacles:
Again, a rather unremarkable "small card" of 5 Pentacles, which happens to be the most revered of all occult signs and has evolved many alternate names:
Pentalpha, pentagram, Solomon's (Sun of On) seal, Star of Bethlehem, Three King's star, wizard's star, Star of Logres, devil's sign, witches cross, goblin's foot, and in German-Drudinfuss which means Druid's foot in English.

As one may demise from this cornucopia of names, the Pentacle is associated with magic, deviltry and Christian mysticism all together.

To the Gypsies, the pentacle means "life" or "health", as derived from the apple core pentacle of Mother Earth. By cutting an apple transversely, one reveals the inner pentacle, which is also called "The Star of Knowledge". Hence, in Arthurian lore, the Pentacle was a sacred sign of the Morgan, and was carried on a blood red shield, according to the tale of Gawain and the Green Knight.

Pentacles, are still the sign of the earth element of Tarot, which has evolved into the modern suit of diamonds on playing cards. With one point down, the pentacle was also said to represent the Horned God.
By presenting a "gate-less" sign of protection, the pentacle also is used in numerlogical mysticism. Hence, to draw a pentacle, one divides a circle into 5 arcs of 72 degrees each. 72 is the prime magical number, divisible by all other numbers from 1-9, with the exceptions of 5 itself and the other magical number 7; it is also divisible by the zodiacal number,12, and multiples of 12, by 2, 3, and 6.
In fact, by being considered so magical, 72 was one of the most enduring myths about the origin of the Bible calling it the Book-of-72 (Septuagint). This silly Medieval belief, claimed that the Bible, was translated from Hebrew to Greek in the 3rd Century BC by 72 scholars simultaneously and that each version was precisely the same as the 71 others.

Also during the Middle Ages, the pentacle was called the witches cross, claiming that this was how the pagans and witches made the sign of the cross; A self blessing done with the right hand, touching the left breast, the forehead, the right breast, the left shoulder, the right shoulder, and finally the left breast again, completing the last point of the pentacle.
Since this was believed to be such a powerful protection sign, it is believed that more people during the Middle ages, crossed themselves with the pentacle than the 4 pointed cross or a Hermetic 4.

When thrown in divination, the 5 of Disks card indicates:
  • That in the next 5 weeks or 5 months, opportunities are presented to you for the release of worry about health, finances, relationships, productivity  and to improve on your communication skills.
  • The past, let's say when you were five years old, is what produces worry.
  • We tend to want to avoid discomfort, and try to compare present day events, to past ones.
  • To be locked into past pain----does not help us live in the present and this card reminds us to forget the what-ifs of yesterday, or fantasized tomorrows and to be the I Am of now.
  • Perspective makes our present state of being, and if our perspectives dwell in the past---we aren't living today. We are inanimate, which is dead to action.
  • We can change directions, be they physical, emotional or mental only by acting--moving!
  • Begin with what you have even if your only action to hold out your hand for assistance, now! What-ifs are unimportant to motion as they only excuse inaction.
  • It's time to break worry patterns by actively pursuing changes in communication patterns, financial, health, and in relationships with the Taurus people in your life.
  • Worry is a type of mental lethargy whose chains are easily broken by activity.
  • Reminds us to Live the now, you are not "a past person" you are a I AM Now person, an active and unique expression of alive motion in the Life Collective.
  • We need each other, to see ourselves---its okay to reach out when we feel like we are in mental quick sand. You'd be surprised how many will grab that offered hand an pull you onto your feet again.

Thank you for your interest, comments and supportive donations. May you live long and prosper!
