Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth Tarot- Knight of Disks & The B.O.T.A. Tarot- King of Pentacles.

The Tarot of EliThe Thoth Tarot- KNIGHT OF DISKS:

Follower's of the Hermetic Qabalah know that Chokmah, the 2nd Sephiroth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, is both Wisdom and the Will to Force. He is the idea of male polarity, the Archetype of Masculine, AND THE WILL TO FORCE OF HIM IS REPRESENTED AS THE KINGS in the element of Earth.

The Thoth Knight of Disks, of the Qabalistic Thoth deck, is known as the King of Pentacles in many other tarot decks. Because the pentacle is the symbol of the ascended man, this card represents Mastery of Abundance and Prosperity.

He is the harvester, who with threshing tool in hand, is prepared to harvest all that he has cultivated. With the capacity to manifest inner world skills into the outer-world, he is determined to achieve harvest in the areas of health and finances.
The Knight of Disks is also the Physical Doctor, the Healer  who is focused on health care, and a concern for body health.

He is the fiery part of Earth, representing Earth as a producer of Life. Mountains, earthquakes, and gravitation are all attributed to this state of energy consciousness, as these are all Life contributors on this earth.
Qabalists know that Life must be in constant motion to be animated, yet it also must be stable (gravity) and often reconstruction of the motion of Life requires a destructive element to "de-construct" before reconstruction can be created, such as lightning; However, destruction must be held to a point of healing rather than destruction for destruction's sake.
In the area of health he monitors his diet (horse eating grains) and in the area of finance, (his large coin shield) he creates and protects that which is financially necessary.

The horned helmet, suggests he is a diagnostician who determines what is necessary in order to manifest abundance. Leo the lion appears on his shield, representing the creative aspects of manifesting harvest.  He is steadfast, reliable, accomplished, the epitome of success, such as the illustration of the Celtic god Cernunos.

Now there are those who think that Male came first, or that Female came first. This argument is because of our short-sighted physical perspective on sexuality. The startling fact to some, is that if you come up with the idea of male, then you come up with the idea of female at the same moment. There is no male concept without the concept of female and vise versa. So the argument of whom came first, is null and void when talking about the Supernal Triangle (The upper Trinity).
The black and white illustration shows the Top Supernal Triangle of the Tree of Life called the World of Atziluth (World of Archetypes) which is surrounded by the Ain  (no-thing) the Ain Soph (without limit) and the Ain Soph Aur (limitless light). In the modern language of physics this would be the Infinite Mind, the Dark Energy, and the Dark Matter.
The Qabalah is a Aramaic  language of Metaphysics and the Hebrew letters are also numbers on the mathematical system of 10, which is both mathematical and philosophical.

Binah is black, as She is of the Limitless light. Chokmah is shown as gray in this illustration since Chokmah is Wisdom (The Blue Sophia of the Greeks) and is said to be a "cloud like gray which contains various colors and is mixed with them" (Golden Dawn Text).
The fact being, is that the Supernal Triangle is most difficult to understand, as no-thing exists there.  To even begin to understand the Supernal, one must understand Absolute Zero as a mathematician would; a no-thing as in the "absence of anything". Thus we have no-thing, without limit and limitless light, which describes the "Space -Time continuum". Very abstract and subjective without positive ideas, all a formless Void.  Some how we must formulate position.  If anything is to exist in No-thing, then two imaginary opposites must  come together in mutual annihilation and thus form a point. We could say this is where matter and anti-matter meet in mutual annihilation (the first concept of "male and female"), causing the formation of the singularity. Or Negative No-thing (female) unites with Positive No-thing (male) becoming an annihilation of nothing forming a position and/or point;  but as a Point, there are no parts only position.

In Quantum Physics an Entity, is called a point in time and in Qabalah that Point, is called Kether. With Kether we have established "neither parts nor magnitude, but only position" (A. Crowley). However, Position means nothing without a way to describe it, so another point must be established, such as I AM (Male-Female) . Thus we have the invention of the number two which makes possible the Line.   At this stage The Line, doesn't mean very much as we have no measurement. So at this stage one can say that the Two Points are distant, for as of yet, there is no near or far from one another.  Hence, we need a third thing to be able to discriminate these points from one another. Thus the Child is born of the Two parent points, The I AM ME.

The Triangle is invented, with this third Point, and now we have Surface. Appearing before us is the whole plane of geometry. It can now be said that Point A is nearer to Point B , than A is to C.  However, with only Surface, there is no substance and we are left with only theory, which is both inchoate and incoherent.
This is where we have the concept of Abyss, as one cannot go any further with the idea in this purely imaginary world. We need the invention of the Actual, the Objective, or at the very least, an approach to the actual.  So we need a fourth Point which is the foundation of Matter (fire), the manifestation; the "proof in the pudding";  The Knight of all suits.

To reiterate: We now have the Point, the Line and the Plane for the Fourth point to exist, as matter or the Solid, it must lie inside the plane so we now have to define it by using three coordinated axis.  Thus we say, "it is so many feet from the North wall and so many feet from the East wall and so many feet from the floor." Using imagination, we now have produced from No-thing a Some-thing and also understand that Imagination is Creation of "Me".  Thus matter being a Dream of Brahman, as the Hindus may state it, seems to bear out.

But we aren't done yet. for nothing can change when the only property of any given point is its relationship to certain other points. So a fifth point is necessary for transformation. Remember physics 101 and the First Law of Thermodynamics? If not, let me paraphrase, there is only one Energy that cannot be created nor destroyed only transformed and transmitted. What transforms it is transition from one point to another, annihilating the points and becoming something else. That fifth point is Motion. Thus the implication of Time, for only through motion in time can an event happen.
Granted, this is a long story but it should be noted that Time/Space is also a long story we call the Manifested Universe. The Letter 5-Geburah, in the Hebrew Alphabet and is the number of the letter Heh (meaning: Window or Sight). Thus we have The Womb of the Great Mother (Imagination), in which The Great Father (Conscious), known as the phallic letter Yod (meaning: Hand and/or sexual love) and the ultimate pictorial Point, moves and begets active existence.  Hence, making it possible to have a concrete idea of a Point, and an Objective Point, and that is called the "son of God and Goddess" and is known as the number 6th, the sixth Sephira, Tiphareth; the self-conscious Soul center of the system (Tree of Life) that is capable of experience.  Therefore, Tiphareth, 6 rules over the lower  Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, In Qabalah, the word Sephiroth means, "numbers" thus we have 10, in the number mathematical system of 10.

This is a fast and hopefully illuminating explanation of the Supernal Triangle which is not objective but is the establishment of the numbers 1 thru 3.
Chokmah is number Two, thus the idea  of Male and female, positive and negative have become invented. It should be noted, that sexual repressive thought, a Victorian or puritanical idea of sexuality, will greatly retard or impede  the ability to understand the inner worlds.

The male phallus or Lingam , is the key symbol of Chokmah and the first differentiation of the One.  Granted, it is at the least, the most abstract  level of primary male qualities but it is just in its interpretation, as it represents the Supernal Father, emanating from the God Head, Kether. From Chokmah emerges the Supernal Mother, Binah. The parallels to the Book of Genesis and the Garden of Eden are obvious here, if one takes the Supernal Triangle to be the Garden of Eden itself.

The Will to Force (Chokmah) and the Will to Form (Binah) are a figure eight of united  spheres, formed from One Energy, to produce the Will - To - Be.  Therefore it is another way of saying the mating of I  (will to force) and Am (will to form) produces the idea of Being/Me.  Our concept of sexuality is in need of adjustment before we can understand the One Energy that made itself Two, for contrary to separatist thought, they are one form of The Divine Creative.

Chokmah is the second Sephira and thus is the force behind the four Deuces and the Four Kings. The Personification of that force is represented in the four Knights of the Thoth Tarot. In other words, Chokmah's will to force, is at its most concentrated and dense elemental form on Earth...such as the most elemental form of electricity which we call lightning.

Represents the Lord of the wild and fertile land and as such is the King of the elemental spirits of earth such as the Gnomes.

The zodiacal attributes to the Thoth card are the last Decan of Leo and the first two Decans of Virgo. Being that the Knight of Disks is the most dense manifestation of the Elemental Yod force (Fiery Father), he is the force behind fruition, and  growth but tends to be slow. The Knight's fertility is represented in this card by the use of the Stag antlers on the Helm of the Knight. The understanding of the mythical animal images of the middle ages, comes in handy here, as the Stag is the beast that ate the serpent ( received wisdom) and in so doing sheds its skin, any illness and old age, just as a serpent does.So to make a long and wonderful story short, the Stag represents the Knights power to regenerate as does the organic matter it is a symbol of.

Many of us have seen the Fire of Earth, in its volcanic upheavals; however, how often do we realized that Volcanic upheavals are Earth regenerating itself? Thus is the Fire of Earth that is the Knight; fleeting yet is also the cycle of rebirth. On Earth, when lightning strikes the Oceans, proteins necessary to life are created. The same fruition is implied by the corn or fruitful plane that his horse is grazing on. Thus he carries a flail, used in grain harvest and his disk/shield is that of solid nutrition.

If you have been following my blogs , you have read about the Knights in the Thoth Deck. These are Archetypal Personalities whose collective moves all things.....and of that collective are we. What many of us forget, especially our "experts", is that we are "Beyond Personality" our Power resides between the Sephira of Kether (crown-potential of Vibration), Chokma (Wisdom-first Vibration), and Binah (understanding-Mother of Form) and is not usually shown on the Tree of Life...Because we are the Invisible Sephiroth known as DAATH which means Knowledge.

The Sephira Daath becomes the Pattern of the  the "Equal Arm Cross" (another symbol for the human body) below the Supernal Triangle, on top of the Tree of Life and is the "head of Adam Khadmon...the Perfect Human".   The Child of God, Daath (Knowledge), produced by the Union of Chokma (Wisdom) and Goddess Binah (Understanding); a union which is shown as the High Priestess Card, is all potential and therefore invisible.

Since we now can design our own individual Personality, we can take the best of all Archetypes and combine them as our Person!
For instance: the Gracefulness, and Empathy of the Knight of Cups, combined with the  generosity, swiftness, and passion of the Knight of Wands, and the skill, courage, and subtle cleverness of the Knight of Swords, along with the patience and steadfastness of the Knight of Disks, would make a great software to operate the hardware that is your physical body. Notice, I said "your physical body" because dear reader, you are not a human body!

The word Human means "God Mind"( Hu is god in Mandarin and Man is from the Hindu-Manas meaning mind) and that is exactly what you are! You can always Imagine yourself otherwise, and if you are depressed, or unhappy, or angry--- all the time a poverty; you can imagine yourself otherwise and all the time a wealth! The Qaballah, Gnosis, and other, "Occult Mysteries" show you how to not only "know thyself" but also how to do the deed of "Being" the Divine Child that you are. So be you male or female, imagine the qualities of the Knights, and incorporate them in your personality...just the way you like! After all, you are always potential anima (Spirit) and animus (Soul) therefore your identity is not written in stone....you write yourself into Light! Correct me if I am wrong, but that means to me "enlightenment".

The B.O.T.A. Tarot-King of Pentacles, is the comparable card to the Thoth Knight of Disks, as Crowley used "Battle Kings" known as Knights, for they show activity and/or fiery nature rather than the King sitting on a thrown of passivity.
However, that being said, the Colorful B.O.T.A.  card, shows the Bull that represents his steadfastness and the element of Earth. While the grapes  show the fertility and fruitfulness of the King.
Here, the King holds the scepter of the Earth and the Pentacle symbol of  Spirit, Fire, Water, Air and Earth, known as the 5 elements.

The many jeweled earthen crown, also depicts his authority over the movement of the matter of earth. The Blue in his robes and the sky, are of the Great Sophia, Mother/Goddess of Wisdom, who is always at one with the King just as electric and magnetic are always one force, electromagnetic.
