Assigned to this card is the Sun in Scorpio and I along with Crowley, believe this to be one of the, if not the, best cup card in the deck. Especially when it comes to a deep personal life changing experience. This is the Ecstasy of the Dancing God and Goddess (Shiva and Shakti in Eastern theology) using your Solar Plexus- abdominal brain (Celiac Plexus) as a "honeymoon suite". This is also called the Manipura Chakra, which when harmonized, is bright solar yellow.
Sure, I could be called bias here, for my Astrological sign is Scorpio natal, and Scorpio rising with a Cancer moon. According to Astrology, this makes me a very deeply psychic, spiritual and emotional person. However, this ecstasy is not from my astrological sign; The Pleasure, is the ecstasy of the Anima (Feminine-Spirit) and Animus (masculine-Soul), in Yab Yum, using the human-Solar Plexus Abdominal-brain as a "honeymoon suite", which excites the right-masculine and left-feminine sides of the Head-Brain, by vibrating the Spinal cord to the Divine Couples "dancing rhythm" .

The celiac plexus or coeliac plexus, also known as the solar plexus because of its radiating nerve fibers, is a complex network of nerves (a nerve plexus) located in the abdomen, near where the celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, and renal arteries branch from the abdominal aorta. It is behind the stomach and the omental bursa, and in front of the crura of the diaphragm, on the level of the first lumbar vertebra. The plexus is formed (in part) by the greater and lesser splanchnic nerves of both sides, and fibers from the anterior and posterior vagal trunks. The celiac plexus proper consists of the celiac ganglia with a network of interconnecting fibers. The aorticorenal ganglia are often considered to be part of the celiac ganglia, and thus, part of the plexus...
The Thoth 6 of cups is named -PLEASURE, because it is the Christ/Buddha Psyche flowing into the body in a deeply spiritual -emotional way. A pleasure that is healing (copper cups), revitalizing ( orange blossoms) renewing and regenerating ( the coiled serpents in the cups). This is the underlining pleasure that is the foundation of creation itself--an Ecstasy that never stops as it vibrates the waves of pleasure of the Divine Creative, that builds all things, as well as, up the spine to the pineal gland in the "other" brain. This vibration floods the body with a core of pleasure and excites magic abilities that are called in Sanskrit, Divya Siddhis.
" Where there is Ecstasy, there is Creation. Where there is no Ecstasy, there is no Creation"
The Sixes of Tarot, 6 of wands, 6 of cups,6 of swords, 6 of disks, are all attributed to the 6th Sephiroth on the Qabalah's Tree of Life- Tiphareth (Beauty), which is arguably, at least for humans, the most important Sephira of all Ten.
Beauty (Tiphareth) is a synchronization of the entire Tree of Life, focused in the Center of the whole System of Will to Force and Will to Form intelligence, that I call the Divine Creative. One can feel this Warm-bright-glow, dead center in the Solar Plexus, where it radiates throughout the body. The Solar Plexus, is also called the "abdominal brain", as it is a nerve nexus, that similar to the 6th Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, connects the Psyche (Soul) to the entire body.
Tiphareth, is the only Sephiroth below the Abyss that communicates directly with Kether (Crown) while being fed directly from the Union of Chokmah (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding) and also from the Union of Chesed (Mercy) and Geburah (Severity). Thus, being a balanced Center of both the above and below, it astrologically represents the Sun; in the system of Tetragrammaton, it represents the Son, who is born of the Union of the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine. Making, Tiphareth, the Sephira that represents consciousness in its most harmonized and balanced form...the Christos or Buddha Consciousness.
You may say, the Son is an interpretation of the All Father in terms of the Fiery Creative Mind. Knowing this, the educated reader understands that the Sixes represent the practical best of their respective elements and that the Son is not a sex of a species but a "Powerful Expressive Creative Consciousness". Besides, the human brain is both male (right side of brain) and Female (left side of brain), and therefore, an androgyny. When these two are awakened to the Love of each other, there is a "dancing" couple in the honeymoon suite of the Head (Sahasrara chakra) as well as in the Manipura Chakra. She, the Anima (Latin for-Spirit) and He, the Animus (Latin for-Soul) are now in a harmony of vibration; a rhythm of both united imagination and reason.
The idea for the Thoth Six of Cups-Pleasure, comes from Crowley's personal experience with "sex magic" and/or Tantra.
The zodiacal sign governing the Six of Cups is Scorpio; Scorpio, a water sign, tends to be exalted in the Sun and this kind of Pleasure is completely harmonized. Fire (Reason) is balanced in Water (Imagination) here, as He is balanced in She. Scorpio is also the sign associated with the "glands of the Pelvis'', so pleasure in the Six of Cups, is rooted in its "most convenience soil", making this a most fertile card.
Both Crowley and I deem this to be one of the best cards in the pack.
As stated: Tiphareth, the 6th Sephiroth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, is the Son/Sun of God (Beauty) and in gematria, the number 6 also represents the Sun, star of our solar system. Contrary to the Patriarchal Christian doctrine, "The Son of God", is in reference to an "expressive/excited Creative State of Energetic Psyche" and not a sex. Thus the whole image of the Card is that of the influence of Sun on Water; the Sun is in the sign of Scorpio which is the basis of fertility in life.
In the Thoth Qabalistic Tarot card, the depiction of dancing lotus stems, with blossoms gushing forth water into each golden cup, without overflowing implies well-being, harmony of natural forces without strain or effort; the gushing Sun Semen/Gluten (White light) that fills the magnetic vessel of Earth. It is ease and satisfaction in harmony. Pleasure, in this sense, is not gratification of natural or artificial desires. Rather, it is Pleasure in the highest sense , a spiritual rapture, and yet it does emphatically represent the fulfillment of the Sexual Will ( Will to force + Will to form=Will-to-Be) as shown by the ruling Sephiroth, sign, planet and element.
The fierce energy of the Sun, can be compared to the metaphor of evaporation. For here the Sun would be in a harmonious state with water (Feminine) as a time of warming (Rhythmic dance) before the type of evaporation, a type of containment in motion such as of clouds, rain etc. that nurtures all life, mentally, emotional, spiritually and physically. A warm sensual harmony that can only be described as the "ecstasy". Here, atoms vibrate at a more rapid rate due to the heat of United wills (Will to Force-Masculine and Will to Form-Feminine).
If the student of Tarot vigorously studies the Six of Cups-Pleasure, by investigation of the Sephiroth-Tiphareth, the Sign of Scorpio, The Sun, and the Pythagorean Element of Water (as an Alchemical element), they will find that this card is the actually the highest sensual/spiritual card in the Suit of Cups. For it is the Pleasure of Union, that is the God (Fire) and Goddess (Water) in Communion, that builds this entire Universe of Force and Form. In other words, the Macrocosmic Big Bang is an orgasm of Energy that spreads forever outward in a joyous flow like a living water. Now I know that most people will not seek to understand this Passionate flow of creation, as a microcosmic "big bang" in their "solar plexus", but if you do, you'll be greatly rewarded with a Sun of Rapture glowing in your Navel Chakra and warming the Heart Chakra, spreading this warm up into the head, as if all is feeling the warmth of a summer sunrise.
From the Qabalistic Text- Sepher Yetzirah and the text of the Thirty Two Paths of Wisdom:
In Kether is the Radix of a Golden Glory and thence is there a pure, primitive and sparkling, gleaming golden yellow which is reflected into Tiphareth. This is the first reflected Triad complete. And the sphere of its operation is that of Shemesh, the Solar Light, and bestoweth Life, Light and Brilliancy in metallic matter, and it rideth the sphere of action and of the Sun. And YHVH .
Eloah va-Daath is a God of Knowledge and Wisdom, ruling over the Light of the Universe; and its Archangel is Raphael, the Prince of Brightness, Beauty and Life. And the Name of the Order of Angels is Melechim, that is Kings or Angelic Kings, who are also called the Order of Virtues, Angels and Rulers.
Lord of Pleasure. Again, here the Sun is in Scorpio The Angels of the Decan are Nelokhiel and Yeyayel.
The influence of the Solar Logos-Tiphareth, in the Mental World known to Qabalist as Briah.
Already we know that Tiphareth in Atziluth (Beauty in Pure Spirit) means Victory after effort, shown as the Six of Wands. Now we see the Six of Cups as Tiphareth in the Watery World, (Mental/Creative World) as the beginnings of waves of Pleasure.
Noted to be a sign of discernment, magnetism and hidden qualities, Scorpio, in the Six of Cups, is like activated Water by Solar influx. Here, Scorpio revels in the Sun, and is likened to a fertile, warm, fruitful Sea--a Spa of Life generating qualities. Being a Sun in Scorpio, and a Scorpio Natal, and a Cancerian Moon, all in rhythm because of my Qabalistic and Tantric work, my inner self is a bight pleasure to my Watery/emotional World. Within, Bacchus revels in my halls of hearth and heart I live this card, in a daily Glow of Bright Pleasure, undisturbed by catastrophe, all because my 2-brains became the "honeymoon suite" of the Anima-Animus. Thus I have no need to frantically seek pleasure, as many people do, for as a Qabalist, I am it; as "I AM Pleasure" is state of daily being. In other words, Pleasure is the Fulfillment of the Divine Creative's "Will to Be". I find that I rise as the Sun, and warm my consciousness, in the glow of Self-Knowledge, directly from Daath.
Of course, Scorpio may sting where the Will directs, however, when the Will resides in Beauty-Tiphareth, Love is the Willful view of Life; the I Am Will rather than I have will. Therefore, the scorpion's sting is reserved for those who would demean life with vial actions of desecration (Such as J. Christ whipping the money changers out of the Temple), such as those who would enforce identity on others.
So as the Sun activates the Forces of Scorpio, gain or pleasure commences. Implied, without need of assurance, is that pleasure and gain will build, as shown by the partially filled cups.
To reiterate-Pleasure, being the natural title of this Thoth card, is not that of the mundane and fleeting pleasures of the pain fleeing populace, but of the highest sense; implying well-being, harmony of natural force and forms without effort or strain but with ease and satisfaction. Yet it does emphatically represent the fulfillment of the Original Sexual Will that is the Divine Creative, as shown by the ruling Sephiroth, Tiphareth-Son of the Divine Couple, sign of Scorpio, Planet Sun, and element of Water. A communion of fertile force and form, that makes all life possible, it is the mating of the Spirit- Sun and the Earth.
The Barbara Walker Tarot-6 of Cups: CHILDHOOD, decide to show this "rebirth" of the Son, as a new Child.
This is a well known ancient philosophy, where one returns to the origin of Soul, where a new beginning can be made. For us, Daath, the "invisible" Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, (called-Knowledge) is our Psyche's origin. It is also called the "womb of the High Priestess".
The Barbara Walker tarot, depicts the Great Mother, a giantess to a child, as all adults seem to be. The returning to the childhood memories, in order to relive and realize them in new ways, is a well known psychic phenomena, the ancients called "returning to the land of giants".
Through out mythology, there is presented the idea of the "return to the golden age", and/or "the primal age of giants". It is thought that giants appeared in myths, because of the universal experience of childhood is that of living among people much bigger than one's self.
This "experience of giants", was known to the Hindu as the "first age of the World", the Satya Yuga, populate with huge humans, that were both wise, and strong.
Northern Aryans, giant ancestors, risi (from Sanskrit-Rishi), meaning "sages of the elder race" The giantesses, Afliae (Powerful ones) governed these elders . And every one live a "thousand years", because they were nurtured by the direct flow of "Mothers blood". Therefore, the cups are red on the Barbara Walker tarot.
Today, probably because of Carl Jung, we know that emotional progress toward a wise maturity, depends in part on a symbolic return to the "children's land", which many "new agers" call , re-birthing.
Greeks called their Primal Giants, Titans, who were ruled by Mother Rhea, the Universal Goddess of the early matriarchal Aegean civilization. Phyrgians called Rhea, Panorma, the Universal Mountain Mother, as she was often depicted in mythological art as "big as a mountain". Therefore, she is depicted as such on the B.W. Tarot-6 of cups. As in Oriental Mysticism, the true source of all vital energy, was expressed in the image of the Giantess Mother or Goddess as power, or "Mother of the Mountains", as Kali-Uma.
