Those of us who have had elementary physics, know that there is only one energy, and that we can't create nor destroy this energy, but we can transform and transmit it; even by our own observation.
For Everything is MIND, and we are Psyche. In fact, everything that is, is a transformation of the One energy/Life, which is the FirstMaterial formed of Thought, moving within the Mind...including you! The Sevens are no exception, they are a state of energy- conscious that is a motion of transformation that unbalances the previously stable sixes.
In Greek Classical Mythology, the word Psyche, is a personification of the soul, which in the form of a beautiful girl who was loved by Eros. In today's terminology, the word psyche represents the human soul, spirit, or mind. In Psychology, Psychoanalysis, psyche is the mental or psychological structure of a person, especially as a motive force. According to *Neoplatonism, psyche is the second emanation of the One, regarded as a universal consciousness and as the animating principle of the world. *[Neoplatonism is a modern term used to designate a tradition of philosophy that arose in the 3rd century AD and persisted until shortly after the closing of the Platonic Academy in Athens in AD 529 by Justinian I. Neoplatonists were heavily influenced by Plato, but also by the Platonic tradition that thrived during the six centuries which separated the first of the Neoplatonists from Plato]
On the Qabalistic Tree of Life, the intelligence of the sevens is the seventh Sephira- Netzach (victory), which is a position low on the Tree of Life, and off of the middle pillar, thus all Sevens are very unstable.
It is a risky business descending, using frantic energy, into this domain of illusion.
Netzach is Energy in motion, and in everyday speech, emotion is any relatively brief conscious experience characterized by intense mental activity and a high degree of pleasure or displeasure. Scientific discourse has drifted to other meanings and there is no consensus on a definition. Emotion is often intertwined with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, and motivation.
The Thoth 7 of Disks, is assigned the planet Venus (7 is a Feminine number- Goddess Venus), and the planet Earth (Taurus). This knocks Venus, attributed to the emotion- Love, off her heavenly perch which to Venus is a great catastrophe; for Venus in her heavenly state is unfettered love, but in her earthly state, she is chained by physical love. Therefore, the four Sevens, bring no comfort and are a depredation of the element they represent, exposing their greatest weakness.
Astrologically this card is Saturn in Taurus which indicates a great deal of work with very little reward.
The 7 of Disks-Failure:
As we can see by examining the meanings of the 7s, the journey into enlightenment is not all "sweetness and light", often we are following delusions that must be shattered before we can see beyond the mirror images of indoctrination and man-made definitions.
The 7 of Disk is no exception, as this card represents the extreme in passivity. Spirit is action, not reaction. However, in the heavy ruler ship of Saturn below the Abyss, movement is slowed to extreme inactivity. The positive virtue of Spiritual action, is not even casting a shadow here, where one is a slave to failure and fear.
In the other 3 suits, the 7's represent some effort, no matter how weak, to expand beyond the low state of the element; none exists in the 7 of Disks. There isn't even a dream of action. Labor itself is abandoned as discomfort and all is sunk in sloth.
When viewing the Thoth 7 of Disks, I can't help think that this is the face that depression would wear; all oily-dark, gloomy and with multiple staring eyes (I's) of fear. Thank all that is, change is a constant in this Universe of Transformational energy. For many of us have deluded ourselves into these low states, and would not have survived our struggle and moved forward out of the hellish mire of self-denial, self-delusion if not for the embrace of our "Inner Lover" known as our Psyche or Soul.
Often I've heard that "God is Love", and that human kind is "made in God's Image", yet I have never heard the obvious truth of the combination of these statements: "Love created me to be Itself." Yet the Psyche, is Love of Being, and to know this is to Know the Miracle that bears your name.
The Thoth Tarot- 7 of Disks is about putrefaction therefore the number 7, Netzach-Victory (7th Sephira on the Tree of Life) has the enfeebling effect of decomposition; However, in this case it is made even more enfeebled by the leaden influence of Saturn in Taurus, shown as the card color of lead.
This cards interestingdisk emplacement is in the gemantic figure Rubeus, the most ugly and menacing of the 16 figures. (777-And other Qabalistic writings of Aleister Crowley).
There is an atmosphere of blight about the card and since Saturn in Taurus brings very little gain with a great deal of effort, it is blighted in many ways. To carry on this idea, the back ground of the card suggests cultivation and spoilage and Netzach's four colors are blotched with indigo and reddish orange, which again promotes the concept of spoilage ( the reddish orange, on the card is faded by processing). Saturn's disks resemble coins that are lead in color and suggest bad money.
*NOTE: In the Barbara Walker Tarot, Golden Dawn and Rider-Waite Tarot Decks, the Disks of the Thoth Deck are known as Pentacles. In some other decks they are often shown as coins.
However, herart interprets the Middle ages and the cultural anxiety of La Terre Gast-The waste land. This landscape of spiritual death, was based on the Arthurian legends of the knights failure to find the Graäl (Holy Grail). For it was a long held pagan belief, that if one neglected the Goddess (Psyche) and her nurturing Vessel, one would experience spiritual death, and maybe even the death of nature itself.
This belief of nature itself being destroyed was reinforcedby the returning Crusader-Knights who described the Arabia Deserta, as a country left water-less and dead, where the patriarchal Islam had rejected Arabia's ancient Mother of Fertility, Al-Lat.
According to Barbara Walker, the 7 pentacles represents the 7 Sisters or 7 Sages of Arabian folk lore, who prophesied the coming of the Mahdi. It is said that these 7 Sisters, are identified with the "7 Mothers of the World", which we call the Pleiades star system. These 7 Mother's were said to judge the qualities of men, and rule the alternation of sacred kings in India and pre-Hellenic Greece. According to this ancient belief, it was said that when the Pleiades set, the 7 Sister's announced the death of the Sacred King. Hence, they announced his failure; a failure that inevitably befalls every person.
Hence, Barbara Walker depicts a Knight, who has failed in finding the Graäl, head bowed in defeat, while sitting in a waste land, not seeing how close to the Uterine cave (often a symbol for the Holy Gail) with its fresco of seven stars. The 7 Pentacles forming the set Pleiades in the night sky.
What I have most often found is that it is the individual's Fear of Failure that is the stumbling block to success here and that somewhere in their emotional past the idea that they were/are unworthy of success, is an underlying personality construct. Other people have reacted so emotionally to loss, that gain itself is a threat as they might lose it and therefore will not dare to desire it.
What many of us don't realize is that we are a wholly Trinity of " I Will Be" (Kether) "Will to Force (Chokma) and "Will to Form" (Binah) and that our Spiritual and/or Mental Force runs our physical form which is the Child of the wholly Three Wills, and forms as "Will to BE" (I AM ME). Therefore, to think ill of ourselves is to perform ill as a form of Will. Since the most powerful Force of our Mental Self is Imagination (Will to Form) linked with Emotion (Will to Force), you are held to no actions of the past if you are willing to imagine and therefore act in a new future.
Try this: Imagine yourself -Well, wealthy (money raining down all around you) etc. and you will set a force filled course of prosperity for your physical form. Make a forceful chant such as," North, South, East and West, my prosperity flows to me which ever way is best!", do this morning, noon and night or the instant you worry about income. It's best if you bespeak the amount you wish to experience, let's say, " $ 2000.00 a month" rather than the generalization of "prosperity", but both will work. What is the real factor here, is that by taking action to change your mind, you are being Spirit/Will in motion and therefore, breaking the chains of fear ensnaring poverty. Spirit is action and the first action in this Universal Mind was "Will"; a forceful energy-in-motion called "I Will Be", which is our Psyche! While the "animal brain" is a fear based survival artificial-mind who reacts to environmental present-with actions of fear of death and/or fear of being eaten and in error calls those reactions, present emotions. When you react to the present as the past, you are not "Present"!
Above all things know thyself! You are a Psycho-dynamic- Force (Psychosomatic) that operates a Power-Tool--known as "your body"! It is but an instrument of your Psyche! And as Immortal Psyche, you are free to imagine your mortal-sensual-self-instrument as you wish, not as others wish! Why would one who is Immortal, let a mortal decide what is to be? Do you let your car decide where you are to go? Of course not!
The Body may also be compared to a Vessel for the Psyche/Soul, in my experience, one never let's the Vessel decide whether to hold wine or water, that is the decision of the Owner of that "cup".
To the Hermetic Qabalist, the 7 of Disks/Pentacles, is Netzach in Assiah, the influence of Victory in the Active Material World, but this represents very little victory after extreme effort.
In other words; the rewards aren't worth the effort. So this card seems to be as all 7s, which means very little good to be gained in the material world from continued emotional and mental effort.
However this concept of "little gain" is deceptive.
Since this card is more about fear of failure than failure itself, it reminds us that trying to defeat our own fear is what is holding us to a snails pace, if any pace at all, towards our success.
Fear is not to be defeated, as that just means you are using your own emotional force against you, as if you were battling your own reflection in a mirror. Rather Fear is to be understood by focusing on the issue, and noticing that it isn't life or death, as you are now alive, and fine without it. Hence, fear tells us to use our power of observation like a type of magnifying glass, and see that an issue is blown totally out of proportion by imagining it as "serious". Again, Failure is not the problem, it took Edison over 999 failures to make a light bulb, showing that he didn't take previous failure "serious" and therefore,
did not stop the invention of the successful one thousandth try!
It is not the Circumstances, rather, it is our own fear, that tricks us and leaves us to believe we are incapable.
The 7 of Disks reminds us that we must keep on our projects, they will be completed by perseverance with in 7wks or 7months.
The aware consciousness knows that fear is only for the sharpening of the senses so that we can pay attention to the details; it is not for avoidance. Therefore failure tells us what didn't work, and not to stop working on solutions! To listen to our fear of failure, as if something serious and life defeating just happened, is to abandon labor and sink everything into sloth. You aren't dead yet, your still breathing, which means the Psyche is still with you!
The Seven of Disks, reminds us that we are fooling ourselves by fearing discomfort (fear of failure is really fear of discomfort and/or vulnerability) we become inactive, passive, and fallen. The Fear of failure states," it is better to lay here on the damp earth of wept for dreams than stand up and pry your feet from the resistant mud of comfort". [Eli]
Again, what I say to my own self-conscious... internally- is , " If you wish to speak to me you must stand for I'll not kneel to your weakness". This tough love, is because I know I AM Psyche and that the Me, who is body,is how I experience the Psyche of I AM; the Me doesn't tell the Psyche What or Who I AM!
The Thoth-7-of Disks /Pentacles: Failure. Represents the mental state of, Physical failure, labor thwarted, and everything is sunk in sloth. This card represents a pause in the garden of financial, health, and physical relationships. There is also fear of failure and fear of success which is generated by negative past experiences.
To Reiterate: Often Failure is due to emotional fear, as it constricts active energy as well as, obfuscates the direction of achievement. Fear is one's own creativity gone against the motion of themselves. Our fear of discomfort, is our worst enemy here, for you can't fail unless you quit, which is often what fear of discomfort tells one to do. When the brain fears pain, we often just never really start on a difficult dream because we imagine a future discomfort if we proceed! Remember, the fulfillment of our dreams, seems a difficult journey, only because we can't see the future. So take one step, for that is how any successful journey begins! Another problem, is that often one dreams an "expected future", and when in doing so, upon experiencing what really happens, thinks they have failed when expectations aren't met. To this one in me, I say, "Get over yourself and get on with you, for impeccability is what we do!" For as a Psyche, who wields his own instrument of sensation, I can always will one more impeccable step, on this unexpected journey of life.
Take a long look at the Thoth card. Its astrological sign is Saturn in Taurus. The planet Saturn is symbolic of constricted, restricted and/or the feeling of limited energy. Taurus is representative of productivity and achievement. The two together tell us that our productivity and achievement are being restricted and limited by our fear of failure. This aspect of Saturn and Taurus can also be seen in the coins as the helmet symbol is Saturn and the Bull is Taurus. Hence, predicting a feeling of failure that interferes with our mundane financial situation. The Helmet is also a symbol of a conscious constriction of which fear is indicative of. This card also indicates a loss of capacity to inspire ourselves or others.
Yet there are contradictory meanings here since this is a pause in the force of our creativity, this could also be just waiting for the fruition of our efforts and is a time of repose and waiting for results. Seeds of new growth are being planted here and the querent may be waiting for a better and more rewarding path to be discovered, which will show up as an 8 of Disks, however the caveat is, don't let waiting become comfortable! For it is harder to get a comfortable body up and running, than an uncomfortable one!
When the 7 of Disks or Pentacles is thrown during a reading it implies that:
