Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth Tarot- 10 of Disks: Wealth & The Barbara Walker Tarot- 10 of Pentacles: Protection.

The Thoth Tarot,10 of Disks-Wealth:
Prosperity, wealth, success in the world of finances and physical health.

Properties of the number 10 Symbolism in numerology and gematria.

  • Symbol of the matter in harmony - 4 + 6 [the 4's of tarot are the Solids and the 6's of Tarot are The Sun/son of the Divine Creative/ The Psyche].
  • Represent the Creator and the creation, 3 + 7, the Trinity (Top Supernal Triangle of the Tree) resting in the expressed universe (the lower 7 Sephira of the Tree of Life).
  • For Pythagoras, 10 was the symbol of the universe and it also expressed the whole of human knowledge.
  • Sum of 5 + 5, the number 10 represents the two opposite current directions of the conscience: involution and evolution.
  • According to H.- P. Blavatsky, the 1 followed by 0 indicates the column and the circle, meaning the principle of the female and male, and this symbol would refer to the Androgyne nature and also to Jehovah, being at the same time male and female.
  • The zero in the form of circle is a symbol of unit, completing then the meaning of the number 1 to show that the number 10 contains all preceding numbers as a whole contains its parts.
  • Represent the first couple, the marriage: 1 = the man, 0 the egg fertilized by the 1. The ten gives the indication of a spiritual regression since the marriage is a consequence of the "fall of the man" ... The Hindu-Manas, meaning "Mind", is the root of the word "Man", therefore, "the fall of the Mind", is the "fall of man". Where mind has fallen down the Tree of Life into matter.
  • The number ten is regarded as the most perfect of numbers, because it contains the Unit that did it all, and the zero, symbol of the matter and the Chaos, of which all came out; it then includes in its figure the created and the non-created, the beginning and the end, the power and the force, the life and the nothing.
  • It represents the straightness in the faith because it is the first number "in extension" (of two digits), just as hundred and thousand, as explained by Hugues of Saint-Victor.
  • According to Agrippa, "ten is called the number of all or universal, and the complete number marking the full course of life." Also he attributes to it a sense of totality, the achievement, the return to the unit after the development of the cycle of the first nine numbers.
  • Represent the revelation and the Divine Law, for the Divine has declared itself-Material.
  • At the Mayas, it represents the end of a cycle and the beginning of another. The ten was regarded as being the number of the life and the death...Transformation.
  • In China, the cross represents the number 10 - as the totality of the numbers.

  1. The 10 of Disks/Pentacles card is the sum total of the other 35 minor arcana since wealth is a synchronicity of mind, body and soul.
  2. This card indicates that by using your communication skills (Mercury symbols on top three coins);
  3.  And linking them with your healing abilities (the caduceus on the bottom coin);
  4. While listening to your inspiration (the star coins);
  5. You will be able to manifest abundance (the three Hebrew symbols for abundance coins).

The Astrological sign for the Tarot 10 of Disks, is Mercury in Virgo. Mercury is the representative planet for communication and organizational skills.  Virgo is the sign of prosperity and abundance  manifested in a tangible way, as in "paying attention to the details". The Thoth 10 of Disks card indicates that allTen of your conscious states of energy (The Ten Sephiroth of the Tree of Life) contribute to a balanced flow of healing, communication, and organizational skills all accumulating to active function on the physical plane.
Your Spirit and body are manifesting abundance as ten transformed states of both subtle and objective Being.  Obviously this is a card of prosperity and also obviously, it will change, but for now eat, drink and be merry; celebrate your accomplishment, for you are Truly Whole, when all of the Sephiroth of the One, are made manifest!

One should also understand that stable Wealth becomes flowing prosperity when we spend it, as our wealth prospers others and thus ourselves, which is also a form of communication.

To reiterate, the Sephiroth, MALKUTH is Earth, that is also called the Active Word and/or Assiah.  It is the lone Sephira of this World. In the other Worlds of the Qabalistic Tree of Life, there are Three Sephiroth composing a Triangle, but Assiah/Malkuth stands alone, for it is the completion of all the other States of Energy Conscious. In other words, the Divine Creative has reached its goal; from the "I Will Be" of Kether, to the "I AM ME" of Malkuth.

Assiah is the only Sensual Activity, of Creation. Now this may seem otherwise to the Initiate who sensually experiences the "Inner Worlds" of the Tree of Life, as they often forget, that they are still "attached" to a Sensual body, and thus feel the Conscious experiences.  But to travel the other Sephiroth without a body, is to feel nothing at all! What one may not remember, there is only One Sense to Consciousness, and that is the sense of "I" sight, and all the "Five Senses" of the mundane body, are just Transformations of that One Sense of "I". That can be seen in the number 10 for there is only a 1 here, as 0, is nothing at all.  The senses of the body are also the only way to know of "other", for they surround us in a senses of separation, so that What is All I, can now be I AM Me; a very necessary separation of identity from which to learn discernment.

What one often fails to understand when viewing all the individual ways a mind is being presented, that there is only One Mind, The Universal Divine Collective Unconscious, and each of us is a unique perspective of Being-Me, as "self Awareness"presented by that Mind. This Wealth of  Self-Perspectives, can cause us to "not see the forest through the trees", thereby losing the joy of observing such wealth to fear of being lost among the "many" different ways to be "me". This fear of many, is merely reaction to fear of rejection, a very mortal fear of the social animal. Spirit, is Action not Reaction, and knows that the fact that something is created, is because it is supposed to be.

To those who practice the Mysteries, there are considerably more senses "felt" than five, some say, as many as ten (Tantra states there are 33), but describing everyone of these sensual states is not for this single blog to describe, so if you are interested in a greater Wealth of Sensuality, start your journey up the Tree while you still support a physical body. What many students of Qabalah don't know, or fear to realize, is that Qabalah is Tantra, and requires Spiral energy (Spirit), Mind and body union.

Traditional explanation of Tantra. (from Wikipedia)

The Tantric tradition offers various definitions of tantra. One comes from the Kāmikā-tantra:
Because it elaborates (tan) copious and profound matters, especially relating to the principles of reality (tattva) and sacred mantras, and because it provides liberation (tra), it is called a tantra.
A second, very similar to the first, comes from Swami Satyananda.
Tantra embodies two Sanskrit words: tanoti (expands) and trayoti (liberates)... It is the system by which you liberate or separate the two aspects of consciousness and matter - purusha and prakriti or Shiva and Shakti.
A third comes from the 10th-century Tantric scholar Rāmakaṇṭha, who belonged to the dualist school Śaiva Siddhānta:
A tantra is a divinely revealed body of teachings, explaining what is necessary and what is a hindrance in the practice of the worship of God; and also describing the specialized initiation and purification ceremonies that are the necessary prerequisites of Tantric practice.
Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar describes a tantric individual and a tantric cult:
A person who, irrespective of caste, creed or religion, aspires for spiritual expansion or does something concrete, is a Tantric. Tantra in itself is neither a religion nor an "ism". Tantra is a fundamental spiritual science. So wherever there is any spiritual practice it should be taken for granted that it stands on the Tantric cult."

According to Tibetan Buddhist Tantric master Lama Thubten Yeshe:
...each one of us is a union of all universal energy. Everything that we need in order to be complete is within us right at this very moment. It is simply a matter of being able to
recognize it. This is the tantric approach. [ and the Qabalistic Approach; for the Hebrew- Qabalah, translates to "receiving" and that is why Crowley and I know Qabalah as Tantra].

Which is also the Qabalistic/Gnostic approach.

The Thoth Deck TEN OF DISKS, is also called the Ten of Pentacles or Ten of Coins, in other decks. However, Crowley wished to show the stable motion that is required in a "Solid" world of spinning atoms, i.e. the centrifugal force of a Spinning of a Disk. All things seem solid in the Kingdom of Malkuth because of the Stability of a Discus/Atom in its spin. I find this to be a brilliant insight (of which he had many, as only those who take risks can) and agree with his philosophy. For as quantum physics has proven, atoms are mostly space, no-thing, (about 99% space) and what is "solid" are particles of negative (she) or positive (he) polarity spinning about each other in "forceful attractions".
Hence,  the spiral "E-Motion" of our inner-conscious subtle-self (no-thing or I AM) that balances our "Crystalline" outer Self (Me); our life motion. Our Mental/emotional perspectives cast our body forward or backward as a disk is cast in an Olympic game. It takes dedicated practice to cast our body/disk towards it's intended life-target. In magical practice this "hitting the mark" is calledImpeccability. Such accuracy requires a soul to manifest many bodies, before it hits the mark! That mark being the expansion and liberation of Life (Tantra) .

THE TEN OF DISKS, is Qabalistically called the Lord of Wealth and is Mercury in Virgo. The Angels associated with this Decan are Hahaayah and Laviah.

Again, this is MALKUTH in ASSIAH which is the influence of Malkuth in the Material world.
The Astrologers assign Mercury the God of commerce, as the ruler of the sign Virgo. Thus this placement is often called an embarras de richesses, as material gain here is so vast, that it often loses importance.

Some Souls have gained so much  objective wealth in perspective-discernment, that they can manifest more than one "identity" at a time, and often bring these identities together, to expand and liberate the imposed limits of each.

As an impeccable Qabalist knows, each new manifested individual Personality is a Fractal made of past personalities, that reside as "memory" in the Soul (point of creative consciousness in the Divine Unconscious). Therefore, after many life-times, where the Psyche/Soul has experienced the entire Zodiac of personality construction, it can choose to make more than one "Identity Fractal" at one point in time.  This may be where the concept "soul mate" comes from.

As energy that is Spiral (Spirit), we are "everywhere and no where" at the very moment of "I", a kind of diffusion into the eternity of the Divine Collective Unconscious. But with a "God-Mind" body (Hu-Man) I am the ability to focus on one "moment" in the Time Space continuum, as "Myself", giving me not only the "sense of presence" but the ability to discriminate my motion! In other words----"freedom of Choice" which simply means free to move by perspective and or Self-Definition. I am a Soul, a whirlpool of conscious, in the Ocean of Unconscious! This Rocks! I find it very fulfilling to be able to have a "sense of presence", and move about intimately, hence, sensually forming reality to my Self Awareness.  To be able to do so is indeed a gift, an inheritance, a Wealth, that mere Ideas, do not receive in the vast Mind of God...until now!

In-Tarot, the number 10 represents the final issue or manifestation of the Energy. Solidification is final, the force is completely expended and results in the end of a thing or death. This is the natural degradation of Time, making change a necessity  to continued progress.

The Celestia rule of the Thoth Tarot card, is Mercury in Virgo, implying that the accumulated wealth is inert substance and must be kept in motion by investment or purchase, rather than accumulation. This futility of material gain is shown by the arrangement of the Disk/Coins on the Tree of Life, where as the smaller 9 coins end at the larger Tenth coin, representing accumulation.

All the disks are inscribed with various Mercurial symbols, with Hod (8th Sephira-Splendor) being the exception as its inscription is that of the cipher of the Sun.This indicates that the only possible release from the impasse produced by the exhausted elemental forces, is the Solar Will of the Father. This fiery will, animates all things and will vibrate all impasses apart. Thus in the case of Hod, Mercury becomes the Logos, the Word (First Vibration), the Will and the Wisdom. The Arcana of the Eternal Son and Virgo the Virgin, is implied in every way in this cipher of the Sun.

When it comes to the whole card of the Ten of Disks, it is a hieroglyph of the cycle of regeneration.  The mundane implications here are that accumulation of Wealth can only progress through willful reinvestment into objects.
The magical implications of this card go deeply into the Mysteries of the Fiery Lingam and the Water-Yoni, the descending female triangle to the ascending male triangle and the magic that comes from uniting the Macrocosm with the Microcosm, producing True Wisdom and Happiness.
The Barbara Walker Tarot- 10 of Pentacles: Protection, relatescard to the sign of "Mother's Protection"; the Pentacle.
Because of its "gate-less" one continual line construction, the pentacle was likened to the uncut thread of the Fate-Goddess, as a cut line meant death. Hence, magic charms to extend life and therefore prevent death, were appeals to the Moiraior Fates who were three sister deities, incarnations of destiny and life. Their names were Clotho, the one who spins the thread of life; Lachesis, she who draws the lots and determines how long one lives, by measuring the thread of life; and Atropos, the inevitable, she who chose how someone dies by cutting the thread of life with her shears. Hence, the pentacles sign, was an appeal to Atropos, to belay her shears.

In the Homeric story of Odysseus, his alleged wife Penelope, played the part of Atropos, preserving his wandering life, by continuously weaving. Being clever, Homer named Odysseus "wife", Penelope, which is a title often given to the Fate Goddess: "She whose eye is behind the web." Before Hellenic mythographers revised Penelope into a faithful wife who fended off her suitors, by never finishing her weaving, as she unraveling it every night, and therefore persevering Odysseus's charmed life; In the older stories, She was actually the orgiastic Goddess (Babylon of Crowley fame). She lay with all her suitors in turn. She then married Hermes and gave birth to the Horned God-Pan.

The Red thread, as shown on the B.W. 10 of Pentacles, represented the mother-given blood bond. Hence, the red thread represented a soul connected to past and future through maternal heart's blood.

The popular gypsy charm, known as "measuring the pentacle" where the client was made to stand in the attitude of the Adam Khadmond and/or Microcosmic Man, with feet spread wide apart, and arms extended. The healer would then stretch a red thread from each foot to the opposite hand, from each foot to head, across the arms, forming a pentacle. Omens for the course or cure of disease, where found in the measuring of various sections of the continuous thread. Where upon, the thread was removed and burned while the client inhaled the smoke or drank the water or wine that contained the ashes.[Gifford, 87-88]

No greater wealth has any person, than life itself.

Suffice it to say, that when the 10 of Disks/Pentacles card is thrown, the querent is experiencing:

  • Riches and wealth.
  • A completion of material gain and fortune, but at a stalemate.
  • The wealth is not progressive and changes must be made.
  • There is old age, a certain slothfulness about this wealth that weighs heavily on the person. This can cause a dullness of mind, that is bright only in money accumulation matters.
  • This is an end of the cycle of accumulation and now a recycle must begin.
  •  Like water, wealth loses its life supporting strength when bottled up: it must flow to stay healthy.
  • Wealth becomes prosperity when invested in others. Prosperity recycles back into wealth.  Therefore the principle message in this card, is don't hoard your wealth, reinvest it and all will be well.
  • Protection, especially in material advantages: inheritance, ancestral property.

It's time we realize that we are the "Sacred Place" in Time Space! We, as Spiral Entity (Spirits) have inherited the Earth, not because we are bad or Lustful, thereby meriting the "suffering' brought on by physical senses as a punishment (The Lust of Goddess/God built us after all!). Rather, We are the accumulated Wealth of Self Image-Creation--made alive and sensual in order to discern thought through sensual means within the One Mind.  The Divine Creative's Self Experience (Self Awareness) built us as a Solution- not a problem! We solve the problem of how to focus intense energy (motion) to a point in time space, to nullify entropy and be able to deconstruct and reconstruct ideas right at the time and place of "seeing/sensing an error"! We Rock Dudes and Dudesses! I Am the Image maker "ME", who can recreate image by using my "Child of God" union card, I-Magi-Nation number "10"! I AM ME is our individual name of inheritance!

For those who don't know, 10 is 1+0=1, in Qabalistic gematria (numerology) which simply means The First Sephira -that is Kether, is The Above Ocean of Unconscious, that we bring to The Below, the tip of the Whirlpool that is individual consciousness! In other words, we don't have a goal, we are the Goal! Thus, we are "Lust without the Need of result"! Lust being the Divine Frenzy, that is the rhythmic vibration in all things! Like I said, "We Rock"! We, each alone, are a Tree of Life of Ten dimension and each dimension has 10 Trees! Like I said, we are Fractals!

THE Qabalistic Thoth Tarot of the Hermetic Qabalah- TEN OF DISKS-WEALTH.

To an astrologer, this card represents Mercury in Virgo. Mercury is the old "God of Commerce" and when He rules in Virgo (an earth sign) material gain becomes so vast it may lose its importance.

A practitioner of the Qaballah would know the Ten of Disks as Malkuth (Kingdom) in Assiah (Material World) which would represent an embarrassment of riches.
The divinatory meaning is physical prosperity, abundance and material success.

Therefore this Hermetic Tarot card suggests a complete wealth, which includes financial security and firm foundations for home and family. Also suggesting that property has been or is being acquired for the founding of  new generations or traditions.

There is nothing "Higher Consciousness" about this card, as the Swiftness of Mercury, is set about gathering material gain in a total focus and all is at the very pinnacle of objective physical success. This cleverness in mind for prosperous activity in money matters, can lead to a certain dullness of mind, a slothfulness brought on by feeling totally secure  and a resistance to take risks.

When thrown during a divination, this card suggests:

  • That in ten weeks or 10 months, the opportunity for completion of material gain , but nothing beyond, will be presented to the querent.
  • There is only a caution here about becoming too "self-satisfied" where thinking that all is done and nothing more need be achieved except cleverness in monetary issues, can dull the mind into miserly dysfunctions.
  •  It behooves one to remember that Wealth is a gathering of money, and prosperity is a spreading around of wealth; a type of reseeding..  So take and give must be balance for continued mental performance.

Thank you for your interest, comments and supportive donations. May you live long and prosper.
When the Ten of Disks is thrown during a reading:

  • the querent is assured of physical prosperity and abundance.  But being a Ten, the end of a cycle, means it may be short lived.
  •  The querent is at a physical cross roads where supply is stable but boredom has set in and is non stimulating.
  • However, the time for taking security risks is approaching and will soon arrive.
  • Attainment, accumulation, accomplishment, realization.
  • Riches and wealth, completion of material wealth.
  • Family wealth and inheritance.
  • A time of good harvest.
  • The wealthy communication between Soul and body.

If Ill defined:

  • Theft and robbery.
  • Gambling.
  • Family misfortune.
  • Loss of inheritance.
  • Legal troubles after a death; or legal troubles and break up of an estate.

Thank you for your interest, comments and supportive donations. May you live long and prosper!

When this card is thrown, it suggests that:

  • In the next 10 weeks or 10 months you will experience opportunities for abundance by utilizing communication, organizational and intuitive skills.
  • It also indicates that during this period you will experience a better alignment of abundance on the physical plane where things seem to "go your way".
  • This may also indicate that setting up good communication with the Virgo people in your life will profit you (August 21 to September21) or add to your abundance emotionally, physically and mentally.
